BeerBear: search warrants? so they got possible suspects?

They mentioned the shooters knew what to target, so I'm assuming a disgruntled employee is involved

Gruntled employees are usually pretty quiet. You'd barely even notice them at all. I might worry about that if they weren't quite so gruntled.

30 minutes of Google research and anyone can know what to target in a power substation, even which substations service which areas/neighborhoods. It's all out there open to the public, down to every individual transformer, transmission line, switches and even voltages.

Apparently these guys used armor pricing ammo that is only allowed for military use. My guess is they found a shell and were able to trace it.

I was gruntled once, as a lad.

Never been the same.

The military does have some laughable pricing policies, but anyone with a credit card an eBay account can buy it as well.

Last I checked you cannot buy ammunition on eBay

Ammo boxes, sure

Actual ammo?

No

I'll take 5.56 for $400, Alex.

Ebay, no. Regular ol' website via FedEx? Yes, as long as your state allows it. And if they *don't* you can still buy the brass, primers, powder, and bullets to load your own.

I was visiting with my folks yesterday (so of course Fox News was screaming in the background)....they kept going on about how this person KNEW where to shoot...

Are there any parts of an electrical substation that do just fine after being perforated by bullets? Anything with coils will experience inter-coil shorting...electronic control bits need to be in one piece...

I would guess most things don't react well to bullets...

Info from police or....internet speculation?

And what kind of armor piercing rounds are only for military use? You can buy existing AP rounds (they're a bit pricey), just can't manufacture/sell new for civilians...

Other thing: This happened very close to Fort Bragg, and the woman taking credit for it on social media (truthfully or otherwise) was in the military there.

I would further speculate that this means the recovered one or more bullets intact enough to be matched to a gun if they recover the gun.

Or possibly shoe prints if they recover the shoes?

Until the final report is released to the public who specifically care about such details, shooting at cans that have made the news, especially as Texass froze to death, are easy targets. Anyone paying attention knows they are on back order.

So if it shows he was grouping shots instead of spray and praying, it shows half a modicum of knowledge. Shoot the cabinets, shoot the cans, shoot the hut, And you pretty much take out contractors and PLCs and hard to replace transformers and cans.

My job is much "easier" than power station lineman, but if you really want to fark an electrician over, cut wires impossibly short, or damage long runs and harnesses. It's not that the job is hard to replace, but takes exceedingly long. So if jackass was taking pot shots at transmission lines and conduit, everything has to be taken out, repulled, and relanded. And then the cabinets. Hoffman boxes are also on forever backorder. Anything that was rated for wet really isn't anymore.

it takes about 20 seconds. first the judge makes a bored and wearily amused face. then the detective, frustrated by the lack of accountability and seriousness in The System, slams his hand on the judge's desk and demands "This time, you'd better do the right thing! Or certain information might get out that you don't want your wife and kids to know about!" and the judge gives a bitter look, says "Don't think you can play that card more than once, detective" signs the warrant. and then there's a Toyota commercial.

Steel core 5.56 is cheap and plentiful.

I have no idea what they used, but even a rando shooter like me has some steel core for teh lulz. (It was also cheap as surplus back before ammo prices went nuts)

Green paint = steel core.
Not hard to get at all.

It is actually pretty impressive what it can penetrate. Me and my idiot friends have put all sort of objects down range and punched holes with this stuff.

Also, a transformer case isn't particularly thick metal and the innards, being copper, are pretty soft.

/Yes I have an alibi for that day
