I hope her support of people of faith, includes her support for the restaurant that refused service to the Family Foundation because of their beliefs.

One silver lining in article, she is a lame duck Congresswoman.  She lost a bid for the Missouri Senate seat.

Hartzler, who's been in Congress since 2011, will not be returning in 2023 after losing her campaign for an open Senate seat.

I'm glad she's a has-been and saddened that she's an ever-was.

You know, with Hartzler, the more I learn about that gal, the more I don't care for her.

2022-12-09 4:56:33 AM
Hartzler spent the first two minutes of her speech bashing the bill, claiming its "only purpose is to hand the federal government a legal bludgeoning tool to drive people of faith out of the public square and silence anyone who dissents."

We get it. Bludgeoning tools should be kept in the hands of people of faith.

Hartzler further called the bill "unnecessary," and said that "Obergefell is not in danger," a reference to the Supreme Court's ruling in the Obergefell v. Hodges case in 2015 requires all states to recognize same-sex marriages and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

She is so right. Much like Roe it is safe as safe can be, established law, never going to get overturned.

If I was in congress I would literally have laughed out loud as she said that and suffered whatever penalty openly heckling a colleague speaking on the floor gets you... which is presumably worse than inciting an insurrection somehow.

How evil or unaware do you have to be to utter a statement like that?  Never mind, we all know its both.

And if it *actually* isn't in danger, then the law does nothing - so what is she so upset about? She's either a toddler throwing a fit because she needs a nap, or she's hoping Obergefell actually will be undone.

The only "problem" with the bill is that now the regressive SCOTUS Gilead caucus can't simply take away rights given by prior courts by citing obscure, misinterpreted clauses from old British common law and originalist nonsense. i.e., sane people don't want to see them pull off another Dobbs (which killed Roe) to reverse the last 60+ years of progress.

This checks out. It seems from Musk to this lady to the incel trolls on social media, "freedom of speech" means freedom from anyone disagreeing and having a different opinion. If they say something that is wrong, and you tell them how and why it is wrong in a factual logical polite manner, you are "cancelling" them from their perspective.

That's what 'freedom' means to fascists. it means that THEY have the freedom to do whatever they want, without even the slightest consequence. Us plebs need to just roll over and take it.

I will never understand the mentality of people like this who believe that the rights of others somehow infringes upon them. That others being allowed to do a thing that they don't personally agree with it somehow a horrible trial upon themselves, even though it has nothing to do with them whatsoever. They are incredibly self-centered, their view of the universe strings entirely around themselves in their own pettiness, and their own desire not to see anything that they find vaguely unsetting, even at the cost of doing actual harm to their fellow citizens

These people are the worst kind of people, who think that the world should revolve around them and whatever it is that they think is important, and everyone else should be forced to live in a way that's designed almost entirely to avoid helping these little babies not feel bad

I know of one in total.  Have an acquaintance that does catering for weddings, whatever really but mostly weddings.  She also does small cakes if they want her to.  When marriage equality finally came around she had no problem with that - she thought ok great.  What she did not think to plan for was a weird tipping of the scales in her area for gay dudes getting married vs. lesbians.  She actually ran out of little dude figurines for the cakes, and she had to have some next day shipped to her or she'd have been SOL on 5 cakes!  The horror, the horror...

/she said she made more money that year than she had in any 2 prior - and worked harder
///but she enjoyed it a lot more, watching people that could finally get married
///one couple was in their '70's - they'd been waiting a very long time those two guys - she cried at that one
////so I gave her friendly shiat, as she's Ms. I Don't Do That.  So she sent me some stills*.  Farking dusty in that email inbox dammit

*: Yes she was authorized to share those stills as she had asked the couple if she could use them to advertise - they were fine with that

Oh yeah? Well, before Obergefell, I was in a heterosexual marriage. Now? Divorced and having sex with turtles (I can't even tell a male turtle from a female turtle, so odds are at least some of it is gay turtle sex).  Explain THAT, smart guy.

/Some may have suggested that my frequent turtle sex was the cause of my divorce, but that's simply a red herring

It offends the sensibilities of the religious fanatics. When religious fanatics find something offensive, they start murdering people. There has never once been any period in human history when they have ever failed to start butchering their friends and neighbors if they see their mores threatened, even if those mores are in and of themselves destructive to civilization.

There is no one so dedicated to preserving "order" as one that has assumed the powers and duties of some ephemeral deity for themselves. The Daesh and Nazis proved that.
