You need a stargate to traverse the mileage they've gotten out of that somewhat decent 1994 film.

That was pretty pointless.

Since it is a Syfy show, expect cancelation in 3-4 seasons with it most certainly ending in a cliffhanger. Otherwise known as 'reason I do not watch Syfy shows'. I actually did not start watching The Expanse until it was announced that Prime had picked it up.

Their problem is that Syfy is a genre cable channel that thinks they can have Game of Thrones audiences with low budget productions and halfway decent talent.

Don't tease me like that... I loved Stargate: Universe. I thought it was absolutely brilliant how Earth tricked the Lucian Alliance into exiling the looniest members of Stargate Command halfway across the universe.

...I really did like it, but will be the first to admit half the joy was watching the characters throw Idiot Balls at each others' heads.

Bring back that red "You Are Here" tee-shirt, and get that mile long ship in gear... wait... damnit, tricked by the haters... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You may be right, but Resident Alien is worth it.
If it ends today, I will have at least enjoyed the ride for the past two seasons!

I really liked (most of) SG1 and Atlantis.  I just could not get into Universe.  The first season was a constant stream of all characters taking turns getting beat with the stupid stick just as a way to increase conflict among the crew.  They desperately wanted the drama of new-BSG, but had no idea how to get make a decent story around it.

It did improve a little in the second season, but then it just ends on a cliffhanger.  While I've gone back and rewatched both SG1 and Atlantis multiple times since they aired, I have yet to revisit SGU since finishing it.

Mrs. Eagle and I gave up halfway through the second season. The background music was jarringly bad. And the editing for the second season episodes felt very disjointed--like scenes were slapped into sequence without any flow or connection between them.

I think it's a show that I liked the parts more than the whole.

I'm in a similar situation to you. Even Farscape: SG-1 was great. I've watched Atlantis again... but it wasn't great. I think SGU has merit, but it was trying to be serious SF. and I'm kind of not arsed to watch it again.

It did have really high production values, though, even if it was just cribbing off Nu BSG.

There's been a lot of gossip recently about new SG since Amazon took over MGM, and I'd like that. Just so long as it's good.

I'm guessing it will be a complete reboot, starting from after the movie again.  Hopefully they keep the tone of SG1 and don't try to make it overly serious.  The fun of the franchise is what made it so enjoyable to watch each week.

The writers also made sure all of the aliens were alien in the show.

Seen it already in the 70s, in Canada eh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_StarlostThe Starlost is a giant Ark ship hurtling through space on a collision course with a star. The earth has long since been destroyed and the ark ship itself was crippled by a meteor collision several generations into it's long journey. The technical people are dead.Curious what The Ark will be about? Here's the official description of the show:

Set 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

A while ago I had a small spot in Z Nation. I was pretty prominent in the shot. Later, they needed more background people for a shot and they told me to get in there.
I said, "Wont people see me?"
The guy said, "It's SyFy channel. No one will care."

Loved SG1 but towards the end, the last few seasons, I got really tired of watching Teal'c (the black guy) being tortured. Felt bad for the character and Christopher Judge having to go through that over and over and over.

One of the better parts of Stargate was the steady progression of technology gained and that it had an affect on the progression of the storytelling. It unfortunately gave that up at the end when they basically got super weapons for free. Also unfortunate that they did not reveal the Stargate to the public.

Sgu deserved a real conclusion, I wish they would consider animated if not practical for the actors, maybe they still aged in stasis

I, like others, liked SG:U for the most part (yes lots of stupid drama/etc) but it did improve and wish they finished the story properly.
