I spent time in Texas when it was legal to drive with a gun in the rack with a beer in the hand and looking back taking the beer out first may not have been the best choice.

In all seriousness, if I were a hospital administrator, I'd want my facility to have an armory.  A well secured and well hidden armory.  But an armory.  If civic order breaks down, it's gonna get shooty up in that place.

This is Seacaucus, not Newark (and before you get outrage-y: a neighbor of mine worked at the Newark hospital, and said that other countries send docs to Newark, Detroit, Chicago, etc to learn how to treat gunshot wounds, since our cities have an overabundance of GSWs to treat and their cities do not have any).

Looks like even Maryland allows you to have a gun in your gun rack (except for specific locations).  Why focus in on Texas?

Up until the mid 2000s a driver was legally allowed an open container of alcohol  while driving in Texas, with the rule the driver couldn't be drunk. The law changed around the same time a license became required to buy dynamite and just couldn't pick some up at a hardware store.

I know this is fark and we don't read the article or the police report, but the guy said he was "going through a divorce" and needed a place to store his guns out of the house.  He said the closet in his office was "built like a vault" (never mind that it wasn't actually locked when the bomb squad came in); he had left the guns in there for weeks, even taking a trip to Tel Aviv (he was arrested upon return).

Fun detail:  he is or was the registered owner of 30 handguns; New Jersey doesn't have a registry for long guns.

Florida law precludes the registration of any guns.   There are lots of hospitals in Florida, the layoff guy should move south.

As someone who's spent 30+ years in a corporate environment, that's about right.

If you want incendiary devices, however, you go to the Creative Department.

So, the dude had 38 guns in his office.

What he was actually convicted of was owning a gun with that had an adjustable stock and a handgrip in the wrong place, one magazine that held 4 bullets too many, and another magazine that held an indeterminate number of too many bullets, none of which would have been illegal in another hospital a couple hours drive away.

However one feels about the gun control debate in the US, I'm not sure there are a whole lot sillier examples of how weird the current setup is.

Why have guns in a hospital? Because they have lots of really good drugs in hospitals.
