The Mint has been running amuck with collectible shiat for years. Those enameled coins may have pretty colours, but they are tacky, kitsch aimed at the dumbell "art coin" collectors, For the love of Mel Blanc, they sell giant silver cons with Loony Tunes on them, and I don't mean the Prime Ministers and soveregns. I would sooner have my bullion in 5 gram bars than in a novelty coin or a plate sized Maple Leaf.

No.  A person can be monarch of multiple countries without those countries being politically linked.  For about a century, the Stuarts were monarchs of England and the monarchs of Scotland while the two kingdoms were completely politically separate.  Canada isn't even that strange - C3 is King of 15 different, politically-separate nations (as well as four politically-connected kingdoms).  You are free to decide the idea of monarchy is a bad thing, but it isn't dumb because your little sultana of a brain can't understand anything more involved than a featureless box.

I'm really afraid as to what harm you would do unto yourself when you find out that the Channel Islands aren't even part of the UK, but are ruled directly by the King in his capacity as the Duke of Normandy for a French monarchy that doesn't even exist anymore.  Not so afraid I'm not willing to let that little bit of information into your noggin just to see the splat works.  Well, not so much afraid as sorry, not-sorry.

Neat. But I have a two part question: first, what's the black bit made of, and second, how's it going to wear?
Follow up: Is this like a Franklin Mint thing that's supposed to sit on a shelf collecting dust (in which case it doesn't really matter how it wears since it'll never be touched), or is it going into circulation?

They are circulation coins. There will probably be some proof ones issued, like every coin, but the coin is being out in ordinary circulation.

As to how it will last, I doubt there will be any issues with it. The mint has circulated coloured coins before without any issue.

All I have to say is our 'dumbest shiat ever' mode of government, with all the flaws it has, seems to be one of the most effective in the world and a hell of a lot more effective than the government of our freedumb loving cousins to the south... in fact when you look worldwide at constitutional monarchies we seem to be doing pretty damn good.
