Same. The first one was at least a great theater experience, even if only for the visual spectacle.

This will likely go up there with the first Avatar and the Disney Star Wars movies, in that I will see it in a good theater, enjoy it immensely, and never have an itch to watch it again.

I walked out of the first one. I couldn't stand the hackneyed plot and the visuals are underwhelming AF after all that hype. I have zero desire to see this or any other retread of such a childish story. Much like Star Wars, I have simply matured past the target demographic for this crap.

It's so funny how emotionally invested some Farkers (and beyond) are in pre-emptively hating Avatar 2. It's been a multi-year hatefest, and the hive-mind has demanded you hate it, and you're committed now. Your ego is on the line now, and pride won't let you admit you might have been completely wrong this whole time. It's like partisanship---you've cast your lot, and you're going down with the ship regardless of what the reality is.

Meanwhile, let's see what the reactions are, from audience members who have actually seen it:


"Unexpectedly intimate emotional scope."

"[Cameron's] sweetest, gentlest, most personal film. Possibly even his most emotional. It revisits all his greatest hits, but it's always totally sincere."

Nah, I've always said I wouldn't be shocked if 2 made money, but I see no market for 3,4, and 5. And I'm the guy who dislikes every Cameron movie except T1 and Aliens. I just don't equate making money with quality.

James, I know you have trouble with more subtle points of a narrative, but try reading the thread again. But hey, big T2 fan here. Perfect movie for my 11 year old self, so you have that going for you. I'm sure the Snorks in Space will be a huge success.

There's tremendous nostalgia for Marvel's legacy characters though. That said, I've never seen a Marvel flick in the theater and I'm not sure I've ever watched one start to finish in one sitting.

That's the big difference between Avatar and the MCU.  Guardians of the Galaxy has blue people and a big tree , so apples to apples, Avatar is a better LOOKING movie, but Guardians of the Galaxy is way more fun to watch.  The story, the acting, the everything except the CGI is just better. Also, Lloyd Kaufman is in the prison shot. Does Avatar have Lloyd Kaufman? I think not. Advantage Marvel.

The greatest 3d theater experience for me is still a toss up between the Martian and Jackass 3D. Like I said, I farking walked out of Avatar. Judge me accordingly.

I enjoy them well enough in 15 or 20 minute chunks.

The faeries of Fern Gully must venture outside the rainforest to rescue several young animals who were captured by poachers.

The Avatar 2 summary is broad enough that it might work. I don't really care. I'm not there for the plot or character development.... Huh. A lot like porn actually.
