Unfortunately we all know that the GOP never learns from their mistakes. They'll continue running useful idiots and we'll still have to put up with their asininity.

Once the hope of taking back the majority sailed, there were no longer any excuses to vote for that blithering idiot.

I'm not going to tell a victim of abuse how to feel about their abuser facing consequences - such as they are - but I don't really see how almost half of the voting public in just one state, representing some ~1.7 million people, saying they're willing to have your abuser represent them in the US Senate, is cause for celebration.

Although I suppose if there's one thing I know about recovery from trauma, it's that you take your positives wherever you can find them. Progress is certainly much better than the other thing.

// debatable whether I know even one that much about recovery, but go with me here

The Chinese Communist Party elite have a saying that voting is too important to be left to the general public. Until Trump and his lackeys, I would have laughed at this idea. But now, I'm beginning to wonder......

"Finally, this violent liar, cheater, adulterer, abuser and deranged, manipulative idiot has been defeated,"

About half the "people" in that 3rd world state voted for him because of those qualities. Pretty much shows everyone what vile, amoral garbage all republicans/christians are. Any christian that opens its mouth to claim some moral point deserves to be curb stomped. They need to show it for decades before they can claim it.

When evangelicals were asked how they can support Trump, a serial philanderer, they said, "Even a wicked man can do God's will."

Nothing anyone does matters when you are that deluded.

Yep.  I have encountered that exact same response more than a few times.

It is the complete opposite of what I learned from my evangelical upbringing.

You absolutely were not to follow anyone who didn't measure up to the word of God.  They would only lead you to damnation.

They always give themselves an out.  But what I always found so crazy is that he was running against a former Sunday school teacher, whose running mate was a Christian missionary.  Then Q takes off and they become  pedophile sex trafficking blood drinkers.

You don't understand.  I can change him.  You don't know how sweet he is when he's relaxed.  He seems like he's a dullard and maybe he's abrasive and unstable but he's told me what upsets him.  I love him.  When I have his baby he'll settle down.  I can feel it.  He demanded that I trust him and I have to follow through on that.

That's not even counting the eligible voters who could* but couldn't be bothered to vote even though a dude with openly displayed brain damage was competing for a senate seat.

*Yes I'm aware some people can't vote in heavily suppressed areas due to work/disabilities/transportation issues. I don't think it was 4.7million registered voters.

I forget what GA Lt Gov Geoff "I Went to the Voting Booth After Waiting in Line for an Hour and Didn't Vote" Duncan said in response to Jake Tapper asking him that very question last night - something along the lines of "we keep hearing from Republicans that they want good Christian candidates, and yet they fell all over themselves to vote for the serial abuser/philanderer/aborter over the LITERAL preacher/Sunday schoolteacher", but I think it was a dodge and pivot to "well, he's a socialist" or somesuch nonsense.

Anyway, heading into our third year of Republicans being so pro-life that they refuse to do anydamnthing to stem the spread of a deadly disease (McCarthy and Crew are going to tank the NDAA if meanie Democrats insist on adding COVID to the list of mandatory vaccines for the military), I don't know why anyone even grants the premise that Republicans are moral or godly or really anything but hell-bent on domination rather than leadership.

2022-12-07 3:28:27 PM
Some other countries have mandatory voting, and go from popular vote tallies like a "1 vote 1 voice" system instead of electoral college. Those might be ideas worth thinking about here. Repubs would never win another election with that though lol.

The only thing they care about is the votes. A Repub can be a rapist, a child molester, a murderer, and it's all excusable as long as they will vote to ban abortion and keep guns.

Repubs have zero moral high ground and they should be openly mocked and dismissed any time they try to pretend otherwise.

A good Christian candidate  - you know, someone who actually follows the teachings of Jesus - would be a socialist. Or at least closer to one than our friends on the Right will ever accept.

It's all about pandering to those on the low end of the IQ scale, and there's no shortage of them .

2022-12-07 3:34:12 PM
Walker had presented himself to voters as a model father taking a principled stand against absent dads; a deeply religious man who opposed abortion in all cases, and a loving husband who overcame mental illness.

Except for the anti-choice stance, I must have missed this messaging during the campaign. I needed a laugh today.

They've convinced themselves of a hierarchy of "goods" and are voting for bad people in the name of "greater goods".  It's totally okay with Jesus though.  Remember the parable of the good samaritan?  Everyone passed the leprosy-ridden beggar except the good samaritan, who instead voted for a man that would send leprosy-ridden beggars back to where they came from so samaritans would not have to feed and clothe them.

The most critical takeaway from this election is that the Republicans don't want independent thinkers in Congress working on behalf of their constituents. That ship sailed long ago.

They want mindless drones who don't argue and simply pull the lever for their rich benefactors 100%. They don't read bills, they don't argue policies, they scarcely understand the procedures and formats of Congress. They're just there to do what they're told.

If the Republicans could train a dog to vote R on every bill, they'd run it in the next election. That's all they care about -- a yes-vote for whatever ALEC or Federalist Society or Americans For Prosperity/Donors Trust or any assortment of dark money advocacy/lobbyist groups demand..

They've regulatory captured the agencies, the Supreme Court and half the judiciary, and they're going after the legislature now. The real power is not the elected members of congress, it's the wealthy donors who tell them how to vote.

Um...

Another woman, who had an affair with Herschel from 1996 to 1998 and then reconnected with him a decade after that, said she found strength in the election outcome.

"Finally, this violent liar, cheater, adulterer, abuser and deranged, manipulative idiot has been defeated," she told The Daily Beast. "As a victim of this disgusting liar, I finally feel relieved, vindicated, and not alone."

Seems like you knew from the outset he was a liar and a cheater, were okay with that for years, and went back for more.

Like, on one hand, I totally get that Walker sucks, he a plain and obvious scumbag. On the other hand...I'm not sure I can sympathize much with all of these ladies. As noted, he's a plain and obvious scumbag...but doesn't seem to have had any trouble attracting their affection, in some cases repeatedly over many years plainly knowing his behaviors.

This is an exceptionally good point.

And it makes me wonder why on Earth he ever wanted to do this anyway.  He's got a pretty good life right now.  He's got money.  He's got income from...  Somewhere...  He's able to get chicks.

Why would he want to move to DC and sit in the Senate chambers for multiple hours, listening to boring shiat that he doesn't even understand?  And what happens when he's called upon to speak about something?!

What really happened here?  Did the GOP show up and his house and say, "We'll give you this suitcase full of cash.  Just be our guy for this election.  It'll be fun!  We have cookies!"?
