Was having an issue with Comcast, which is very rare here, and called, trying to get an agent..  not getting anywhere, so told whatever was on the other end of the line to get me an agent now or I would piss on their CPU, and the phone hung up...  three minutes later, the modem reboots and all is well..   never heard a word from comcast..

Don't get me started on Comcast...what a spectacular fuckup they are.

How the hell do they stay in business with such shitty customer service?

the algorithm has determined that minorities and immigrants don't have money.  you are a (minority/immigrant) and your account has money - reporting user to police for fraud.

oh wait, that happens now with human bankers.

Comcast would go down at 1 in the morning or so twice a month without notice. I'd check on their app. and it would state unplanned maintenance.

A lot of the time I'd be getting some work done. If not I'd be engaging one of my internet-requiring entertainment options. Either way, night over

People can be just as difficult. After we moved, my credit union decided my electric bill had to be paid with a check. They were willing to generate and mail it, but they were unable to do an electronic payment. This is for a power company I've been doing EFTs for almost 20 years and three houses. The credit union says the power company wants it that way and the power company is WTF? Three years now, no resolution.

Ya know when you read one of those articles about some nifty new tech that is going to revolutionise some aspect of daily life that doesn't need revolutionising, and you can tell right away it's going to fall so flat that nobody will remember it 6 months from now?

This is one of those times.

Calling them was your first mistake.

I gave up on them when waking up to no internet until I rebooted the modem became weekly thing (usually on Sunday or Monday morning)

In most markets where they operate, they have a local Monopoly. It's either Comcast or nothing. Nothing beats Comcast only some of the time.

Thankfully, I'm not on Comcast...my ex was. I use Sparklight (formerly CableOne)...which is marginally better, but not by much.

Agreed.

One day (about two years ago), my ex-GF's modem went on the fritz (and yes, she asked me to find out what happened to it). I told her she'd have to call Comcast to send someone out to fix it, so she did. They told her they'd send someone out as soon as possible, since there were several other customers ahead of her, and she'd have to wait her turn.

Then, she called them again.

And again.

And again.

Repeat ad nauseum every 30 minutes for eight hours.

I kept trying to tell her that they wouldn't go any quicker, no matter how many times she called, but she didn't listen. When the guy finally showed up, she was pretty pissed that he didn't drop everything he was doing and come right over to get her internet hooked back up. Turned out, she needed a new modem, as the old one was on the way out, and was due for an upgrade anyway. After he put the new modem in, and got it up and running, he had her sign the work order, and left.

She then lit into me because:

1. The modem died, and I couldn't get it back up and running;
2. I "made" her call Comcast;
3. The cable guy had to put in a new modem;
4. He moved two of her cushions (on her sofa) out of his way so he could do his job;
5. He plugged the modem into the "wrong" outlet;
6. The modem was in the "wrong spot".

Oh, there were other, petty issues regarding the installation of the new modem she whined about, but somehow, she tried to make it all my fault her modem died in the first place, and I somehow "made" her call them to have a new one put in.

I tried to shrug it off, but I realized it was just more of the emotional and mental abuse she had trying to put on me.

Guess it depends where you live...  don't use cable, just the 'net & a landline.. their line was up, because the phone worked, but the 'net was down... second outage of 2022, and the first one was due to a pole down via a drunk driver...  If I can get a person, the problem gets resolved quickly.. the issue is getting a person..... probably line maintenance...  the 'xfinity' name is a truism..  throw an x or a z into the name and 80% of people go "Ohh- shiney !!!   Gotta have it !"    Which explains Verizon instead of Bell Atlantic...

Kept my copper POTS line until I got a letter with a disconnect date...Verizon is abandoning copper plant because the maintenance costs exceed the income they get from POTS. OK, I said, fiber me up. Kept the fiber landline for a month, then transferred the number to OOMA (I was on Comcast at the time) for $6/mo, compared to the
$40  Verizon was charging

Come the COVID epidemic, I looked again at FIOS (they had been neck-and-neck with Comcast's prices, so no advantage to switching). A pleasant surprise! FIOS had doubled their speed and cut their monthly cost to 1/2 of Comcast's, with no contract or introductory rate! So FIOS, it was, and that was almost 3 years ago. It's been great, no more weekly outages, fair price, and better performance as well. I don't use them for TV or phone, so can't comment on those offerings, but the internet is far, far better than what Comcast offers (and, yes, I am very lucky to have a choice)/

Bondith: I can see why she's your ex.

Those issues of hers manifested themselves after her mom and grandma passed away. She'd had mental health issues for years (which I tried to help her get treatments for), but ultimately, I couldn't save her from herself.

Also, this was just part of the reason why we broke up. The biggest reason was because of how cold and insensitive she was to my telling her about how my mom needed to be airlifted to an out-of-town hospital. Her response then was, "Fuck you, I don't care."

Yeah, I just wanted a few words of comfort...got shit on for my troubles.
