Is he taking the other nob with 'im?

A good start. Now dump Noel and bring back some actual fun people.

He has like six seasons of Inspector Spacetime to catch up on.

I make a motion that Lottie Bedlow joines Noel as the next host of "The Great British Bake Off".

I vote for Matt Berry and Philomena Cunk.

Good. He sucks! And I'm one of the few who thinks he's funny af in Little Britain.  And Noel is fun in IT crowd and Mighty Bouche. But on the baking show?  criiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinge and the ugly ass shirts. They suck.

Oh good, now get someone that isn't stealing all the oxygen from the room. Noel is a great presenter who looks like he is genuinely having fun and making friends with the contestants, which is exactly the right vibe for the show, he needs someone he can actually play off of

With Mock The Week having ended, I'm kinda rooting for Dara Ó Briain

I think he'd be quite good at engaging with the contestants

I've only really been exposed to Dara on QI, but he is one of the better panelists, so I'd buy it.

He's a good comedian, but just not a good fit for the show. His comedy style is too similar to Noel's so he just feels redundant.

Noel can be a lot, but I thought he and Sandy worked well together. I was sad when she left.

Matt Berry & Chris O'Dowd (the "fat, drunk, and over-the-top-ludicrous" ticket)
Richard Ayoade & Jenna Coleman (the "we average out to almost one normal-looking - and acting - person" ticket)
Rupert Grint & Emily Blunt (the "nonthreatening superstars" ticket)

// I like Noel, but if I hear his faux-operatic "baaaaaake!" one more time, I will drag his coffin to the brightest part of California and open it at high farking noon
// is it sacrilege to suggest someone people the IT Crowd/Who-niverse?

Dara is good, but I can't see real chemistry with Noel.  He'd have to be the straightman, and while that's entirely in Dara's wheelhouse, it just feels wrong to me with Noel.

Frankly, it's about time they experiment with some colo(u)r.   I wonder how expensive Ramesh Ranganathan would be?  Him mocking/straightmanning Noel would actually work.  Nish Kumar is good too, but he's a bit more of an issues guy/political with his humo(u)r.

why does this show even have a pair of 'co-hosts" and a pair of judges?
Why don't we just have the judges tell us what we'll be cooking, sense you know they set the challenge and are the expertise knowledge on set anyway?

At most this show can use one yammer head host, having two, just kind of exemplifies how little there is for them to do in the first place.

Well for one thing the technical is done blind, with the judges elsewhere during the bake, which would leave the participants without a host for that part.

There's also the factor that with a full slate of contestants, some will have better chemistry with one host than the other, and you can optimize the content and minimize the awkward stuff.

And there's a rather nice thing they do in Bake Off where the two hosts take turns - one announces the weeks winner, the other who is going home, and that swaps each week.  It helps keep the "delivering bad news" spread out.

And you might poo-poo all that, but that's the kind of nice thing Bake Off does that makes so many people love it even when they can't stand US made competition reality dreck

There is a streaming service, Taskmaster Supermax (IIRC) that has all the UK series and some of the non-UK versions. I'm pretty ambivalent about it... I love TM and Little Alex Horne... but c'mon, a streaming service for a single show? Bit daft.

/There's also been a kerfuffle with the host of the Norwegian version, Kongen Befaler, being racist recently, so he's stood down.

Just double checked, they have up to 11 on YT., nd when they first started uploading, it only went up to 9. I wouldn't be surprised if they put up 12 and maybe 13 sometime soon (from what I've heard, they're already filming 15).

They do have their own paid service, I think they're also on BritBox or something. That being said, 12, 13, and most of 14, can be found on unofficial channels, or so I've heard.

Haven't checked lately, but I vaguely remember them having Sweden and I want to say Denmark? as well.

They have a bunch of great interactions in that episode, as well on other shows. Dara just has the ability to work with almost anyone.

As to Richard, as much as I love him, I don't know that he'd be good for Bake Off, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has no interest in it.

Hey, hear me out.  I know your show has been INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL for 12 years, It's a veritable cultural phenomenon that has been the number 1 show on your network nearly every week it airs...

But some rando in America (you know, the country that regularly trips over its own dick trying to adapt your shows) thinks you should change your format because they don't understand how it works.  Y'all might want to look into that.

If they want someone who's a real opposite to Noel, while I still think Romesh is the ideal type to put opposite (or Ayoade, who isn't really a total opposite but has years experience riffing with Noel), I might also go with someone like David Mitchell.  Someone who'd seem awkward with Noel in a deliberately constructed comedic way.

I don't remember the specifics, I just remember it being mentioned in a few things. I know for sure it was mentioned in a QI clip I watched recently.

So I caved and checked Wiki. Mathematics and theoretical physics. Also, he apparently was a host on Robot Wars a few years ago.

PlaidJaguar:\I haven't actually watched the US attempt, but I've seen some stuff about what they changed and why it made it not work

Yep.  Wrong choice for a Taskmaster, a poor selection of contestants (and I liked a few of them), but ultimately they wanted to cram it into a 23 minute format and that's just not enough time to get anything done.  It's a shame, because I really think a Netflix or an Amazon could have had a great run with it.

It's a fascinating train wreck, because you can see where all the pieces are there.  They just couldn't get it right (and some of the tasks were fun, though the "order a pizza without saying these words" task bombed horribly, since US pizza places ain't got time for that nonsense)

Pretty sure he's a firm "no" because he doesn't like the concept of not being in control. The channel that TM started on, Dave, has a TM-ish show that he hosts, though, Outsiders. Similar basic concept of him getting comedians to do challenges except they're camping. S1 was a bit rough, but S2 is better imo.

Seen the TM S15 line up though? Frankie Boyle... oh my.

Boyle is okay.  He's middle aged, so he'll have to be one who thinks through the challenges, like Dara did.

I appreciate that the show usually stops short of casting real Dinosaurs (keeping it somewhat physical is definitely part of that).  None of these "National Treasure" types, where it's a synonym for "old and unfunny".  Frank Skinner, Bob Mortimer, and Jo Brand are the only real oldies.

Kris_Romm: Hire Sue and Mel back?

Nah.

I miss the educational portions of GBBO that Mel and Sue would do, travelling around to places that make whatever it is that the bakers are trying to, and showing how its done by professionals.

That is exactly why I suggested Cunk as a host - imagine bringing that element of the show back with her.

Taking those out might have been just as much about money though.

Kris_Romm: He 100% should have been on the same Taskmaster season as his wife.

She was on in 12, from what I heard a) he's been being asked since something like 4 or 5, and b) *crosses fingers* part of the reason Victoria agreed was to get him to agree as well

iron de havilland: Pretty sure he's a firm "no" because he doesn't like the concept of not being in control.

Nope, in the interview I saw, he said he didn't want to do it because he was afraid he'd look stupid and people would think less of him. That leads me to think he didn't have a complete understanding of the show and might partially explain b) above. Quite a few "contestants" quite clearly did not care if they won or lost, and they tend to be amongst people's favorites. Rhod Gilbert was nothing but an agent of chaos and he tends to be high ranking on the list of favorites.

He's the reason I can't wait for 15. I suspect he will be another agent of chaos. Outside of that, no idea. I'm vaguely aware of Ivo, no idea about the other three.

You need to sort out your definitions. There have been plenty of 50-55+ year olds on there. Bob Mortimer regularly makes the list of favorite players, and iirc he's the second oldest to be on (Jo is the oldest) and was in his late 50s when he was.

espiaboricua: I make a motion that Lottie Bedlow joines Noel as the next host of "The Great British Bake Off".

i hope Lottie doesn't ask me to rob a bank with her because i don't think I'd like prison

/obligatory remark about 'motion' and 'lottie'
