"The verified Great Lakes region Twitter account for the agency reported the passenger and dog owner did not tell TSA about her dog."

Soooo, these, supposedly mentally non-deficient "humans" need to be told there's a living, breathing creature inside a carrier meant precisely for that purpose?

That's weird, cuz you'd think they'd have their dog on a lead.

It's a backpack. Not really designed as a pet carrier. I suppose for smaller creatures it would work, but not recommended.

TSA is Clown Shoes, but that is a farkin' backpack, not a pet crate.  I'm not going to blame TSA for not asking every moron they see "Oh, by the way, do you have any small pets in your luggage?"  There is plenty of reasons to throw shiat at them, but this ain't one.

Now you've made me defend TSA.   I think you owe me beer or something.

Poor pupper - ok now I want to smack the shiat out of this asshole.  I'd have accepted it if the TSA did so in this case, it's common farking decency toward your animals

Saw it happen a few times during my TSA years. You'd be surprised at what people do at security checkpoints. For all the sh*t thrown at TSA officers, consider they're the ones that have to inform the traveling public not to put pets through the x-ray machine among other things.

Good boy Rex was a happy dog who loved his family. Until he received a high dose of X-ray radiation at an airport check point. Now he lives only to destroy humanity

Hard to blame the dog here. Have you seen what a vet charges for an X ray?

The Transportation Security Administration reported that a dog was accidentally sent through the X-ray at the Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin this week.

How do you fit a Dane through an X-ray scanner? Those suckers are huge.

Think about how bad flying sucks for humans.

Now imagine thinking it's a good idea to subject your dog to that.

Leave the poor dog with a sitter, you self-centered piece of shiat.

Oh...

CSB:  I was sitting in a window seat, with no carry on, just behind the wing.  A lady and stewardess show up, and ask if I'll switch to the aisle seat, because her carryon won't fit under the aisle seat, which has slightly smaller foot-space.

The window seat gives me an extra two inches for my shoulder to fit, because I have shoulders, and on my shoulder/arm sticks into the aisle, and I get bumped all flight by people walking by, or asked to tuck my arm back within the confines of the seat.  I paid a tiny bit extra to choose my seat, I'd forgotten my Kindle, and my in flight entertainment was going to consist of staring out that window.

So, I said, "no, I won't switch seats, but you can toss your carryon in the space in front of my feet.  They hand me a little case, that looks like a diaper bag or something, soft sided with lots of pockets.  I stuff it under the space, and wedge my feet along side it.

About fifteen minutes into the flight, I notice this little bundle is wiggling.  It has a puppy inside!  I had no clue!  So my in flight entertainment switched to petting the puppy.  Free airplane puppy!

What I'm saying is that yes, it's incredibly easy to mistake some of these check on pet carriers as luggage, especially when the owner doesn't speak up and say something.    I tilted it sideways and stuffed it under a seat without noticing it.  I could have crushed the poor dog.

The lady in my story just handed me a bag of puppy without saying a word.  The lady in the article maybe just put her dog through the x-ray scanner without saying a word?  Maybe people should just use their words?

Did they at least find the tumor in the dog?

2022-12-07 9:00:13 AM
Doggo probably got about 2 µSv of dose there.  It'll get about 4 times that from the increased cosmic radiation exposure of a 3 hour flight at 30,000 feet.

Forgot to add this

First week of training, I had to check the bag of a female who was visiting her boyfriend who was an NBA player. I could tell there wasn't much in her backpack just from picking it up. When I opened it up, the only things in the bag was a pair of thong underwear and a strap-on. I don't know who her boyfriend was, and didn't ask. I zipped the bag and handed it back to her telling her to enjoy her trip. I knew the job would be one huge adventure after that one experience.

Obituary Birthday: Didn't another person do this with a cat a week or two ago?

Is this the other incident you're thinking of?  FTFA:

"Last month, a similar situation occurred at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, when a TSA officer found an orange cat inside a checked bag after it went through the X-ray machine.  A Transportation Security Administration spokesperson said that the traveler told officials at the airport that the cat belonged to someone else in his household and had no idea the cat was inside the bag."

I know someone this happened to years before 9/11.  Was flying with his dog and the pet carrier (not a bookbag like in TFA) was sent through the X ray with the dog inside.

Oh...

I would blame the idiot traveling with it not paying enough attention to advise the screeners of its presence (probably because they didn't want to follow the rules).

Remember, those people you most deal with - cashiers, waiters, airport screeners, and so forth?  They're paid the least of anyone at that business (or close to it) and not given the authority to "bend the rules, just this once" for you.  If anything happens because of their little favor for you, the only one who will pay any consequences is them.
