Kind of odd to look at a lifted 4x4 off-roader and not see a couple of drive shafts and differentials.

Or Confederate flags.

If you buy a Scottish car do you get a lordship?

The horn actually plays bagpipes.  That'll teach everyone to get out of your way!

That looks like something they would build on Top Gear and then destroy it in 5 minutes.

Is that a promise or a threat?

I am on record as saying that funky is ok. This looks more FUMVEE to me. I don't think, and just saying, I don't think ultra heavy EVs are what the world is looking for. My tired mantra is that ICE vehicles make more sense as you move farther from city centers. There are exceptions for "recreation," I guess, with hybrids, but chunking huge batteries around in the wilderness, if it ever makes sense, does not make a lot of sense in 2023.

Who is going to buy one? ultra rich, tree hugging, risk taking, offroaders. And maybe Australia does not count because of the temperatures and floods. This is a hobbyist's vehicle, right? But see... how "rugged" can a "prototype" or "bespoke" vehicle be?

OK. Good luck!

That is odd. But this one has a single electric motor turning the 4x4 system from a Land Rover Defender and you can see the diff and driveshaft in the pictures in the article.

Look again....traditional 4x4 system with some parts sourced from the classic Land Rover Defender

If you're going for real off-road capability at least use offset axles like a HMMWV

At least they didn't make it look boxy. I was worried about that a bit.

much larger wheels and tires, especially one with axles and supposedly intended for extreme usage.

Offset (portal) axles are still better.  That's why the military uses them in their stuff.

Yeah it always amused me about that. "I got 98" of ground clearance on this here truck!"
Yeah the frame may be that high up but your diffs are only about 18" off the ground. Good luck not snagging that on all the rocks and logs and such that you're supposedly going to use this thing to crawl over.

Anyway this vehicle is basically a license-built copy of the original Defender with some electric bits where the leaky old petrol bits used to be. Granted it'll probably cost less than trying to source an original Defender that hasn't been destroyed and then doing an e-swap of the likely dead leaky petrol bits, but I'd still probably not buy one. I mean if it was the choice between this, the new Bronco, or a G Wagen, I'd take this. At least this is supposedly a "real" off-road vehicle.

Electric drive is quieter.
So you can sneak up on the sheep.
