January 20, everybody gets on the trump bandwagon and deny they were never trumpers.

If he has any oil left in him, they'll drill him for every last ounce, Bill.

2022-12-06 2:30:36 PM
As long as Trump holds onto that 28% of the country that is fully committed to being assholes and racists, the GOP will never be able to quit him.

2022-12-06 2:34:23 PM
They're going to try and ditch trump, but a lot of Trump's cultists will not comply. Cultists follow their leader and they're not going to appreciate their leader being ditched.

It might fracture the party. LOL!

What a shame!

Right. There's no conflict between Kristol's post and yours; we've watched it happen several times.

There is nothing heinous or disgusting enough Trump could do, to lose the support of most Republican weasels - except, continuing to lose.

Trump lost the 2018 midterms, the 2018 Georgia run-off election, the 2020 Presidential election (by 7 million votes), the 2022 mid-terms and soon the second 2022 Georgia run-off.  0 for 5.  He will have lost 5 key national elections in a row making him one of the biggest political losers in history.

A mentally disabled person who likes to pay for abortions was worried Trump would be a drag on his election chances.  Let that sink in.

Not in this timeline, the darkest timeline.  Remember the timelines split in 2018 when Trump was elected.  In this timeline Kristol is always right.

That's the best bet - get it into Trump's head that he must start the Trump Party, the real conservative party.  It's his density to lead America yadda yadda.  Just the kind of suckup drivel he'd eat up, but more importantly, tens of millions of deplorables would eat it up.  Get in on the ground floor of the new party!  And the GOP won't get more than 35% for a couple of cycles because of Trump Party defectors.

Or is that too much like how the Nazi party succeeded.  I'm scared.  Hold me.

I'd like to see a 2023 where the GOP descends back into its old usual pack of assholes rather than the lunatics they tend to call "mavericks" and "firebrands".

Maybe Manchin will become their leader. /s

The timelines are (presumably) a spectrum. While there is probably asymptote between us and "Kristol is always right" I am willing to believe there are timelines where he is not 100% wrong.

Thank you.

Its pretty easy if you lie, or don't care, or think you are above it all.

If Trump gets the nom, they all be 110% behind Trump getting elected to office.

Yeah - the GOP REALLY underestimates how hard Trumpers are dug in on that freak.

By a bajillion.

No this is just common farking sense
There is NO PRESIDENT WITHOUT THE CONSTITUTION
The office doesn't exist, you can't get sworn into it.
There's no House, no Senate, no Supreme Court, no federal government. These all exist because the Constitution says they do.

It's a patently absurd proposition, stop giving it credence

That didn't happen at all. The only question to consider is what McConnell's ask will be. Last time it was a job for his wife so she could funnel money to his state.

GOP has absolutely no control over this process. They helped seed Trumpism deep into the rancid soil and the roots have grown. Trump is their master and they know it.

2022-12-06 3:43:51 PM
People forget that Trump won the primary for a reason, and has been the GOP's champion for 6 years.  They like the fact that he hates America and the constitution, because they hate both as well.    They just want to hurt other people.

Trump will be a force to be reckoned with going forward, unless the GOP truly decides to back away from it's anti-gay, anti-crt, anti-immigrant, anti-education, anti-science, and pro bullying ways.

With the former, I get to see Scump AND the GOP suffer.

With the latter, I get to see Scump no longer exist at all.

Decisions, decisions...

I disagree. The majority of trump's hardcore fanbase aren't going to refocus their slavish devotion to some dull, quotidian politician like DeSantis, or whoever the GOP craps out next. They live for the spectacle that only trump provides: the name-calling, the constant nasal whining, the abandonment of social norms and coarsening of daily discourse that makes them feel better about their own sh*tty lives.

Once trump is finally rotting in the ground those people will mostly slither away, never to vote again.

Sure...

One thing that has held true for the Republicans in the past decades is the "Big Tent."

Nothing has been a dealbreaker for them. Nazi? Come on in. Domestic Terrorist? There's a place for you.

The idea that any housekeeping can and will ever happen in the GOP is laughable.
