How much does it cost to block off 6(?) city blocks for this and what is the return?

Also, is the tall "shifter" a hand brake or something similar?

Probably cheaper than renting a helicopter and jet plane.

there is a shifter and a handbrake. they're large becasue that's how drift cars are setup.  These videos cost millions to make. Here's a video about the car:

100%.

And even as a teen, Gymkata's "Look at this weird stone thing that looks just like a pommel horse! Everybody come at me one at a time!" thing seemed absurdly contrived, even for a JCvD movie.

The tall shifter is actually a brake that stops the rear wheels momentarily to aid in spin maneuvers.  It's like the emergency brake, without the mechanism to hold it locked.

I think that he does rally stuff now because his body is too broken to do anything that's actually physical.  He's got to keep up that extreme lifestyle somehow.

The Ken Block 4x4 Mustang video was the first one I saw. It was great since it was all unique to me. This vid has some nice tricks but the originality is gone.

If your  suggestion is a vid with both drivers doing tricks side by side and all over the place, then that would be freaking awesome.

Yeah, he actually swore he wouldn't do BASE after his best friend died doing it, but got convinced that this was an easy jump. Whoops.

Rally is extremely physically demanding.

I love track racing and it uses muscles all over to keep my body planted center while shifting, braking, and steering. After 3 or 4 heats of 5 laps, my outer thighs and upper arms are worn out from the pressing against the sides of the seat, console, and door.

Rally is even harder on the body.

That's Pastrana himself. His family has a lot of military ties and BRCC did a bunch of philanthropic work in Puerto Rico after the hurricane there because Travis asked.

BRCC is the most bi-polar company I can think of. They are extremely conservative politically (obviously) but they also do a TON of great philanthropic work for veterans and other first responders and for families of vets.

2 handles--one e-brake, one sequential shifter. Not sure which is which.

First time I heard of Travis Pastrana, he was still riding motorcycles. He was on one of those "when bad things happen" shows back when we still had cable. This was probably... 20 years ago, or nearly so. He was out in the dunes somewhere and jumped his bike, landed flat, compressed...everything, and was thrown off the bike. The injury he suffered at that time was that his spine was separated from his pelvis. His spine detached from his pelvis. I couldn't believe when I started hearing his name again doing other... "adrenaline" sports. Couldn't believe he could walk.

Whatever floats your boat and all that, but I found myself getting incredibly irritated after a minute or so of watching this guy pump endorphins into himself just because it's cheaper than crack.  Jeez, read a book or something (as long as it's an EXXXXXTREEEEME book!)

Yeah that accident nearly killed him and just about ruined his Supermoto career, he did that injury as a teenager IIRC.

Pretty good documentary out there about him. This was made in '09 so the injuries he's had over the last 13 years aren't really covered - and he's had a lot.

Absolutely it is, but it's not falling 15 feet onto dirt.  Unless he crashes.

Pastrana is fit as hell, but he's taken way too many concussions and heavy impacts.

The one closest to the camera is the brake. The shifter is a little shorter and closer to the driver. You can see in some clips him rowing through the gears under acceleration and hear the engine shift as he moves his hand.

No, it's not just Pastrana. BRCC is a sponsor on the bulk of the hoonigan productions now. This v. that, Honda v Everything Else, Dyno Everything. They are BRCC sponsored. Pastrana is only tangentially involved with daily Hoonigan stuff.
