Me: "It's a combination of too many guns and most Americans being dumber than a bag of hammers."

Really it's a problem because we farkin' loves us some violence.   It is pervasive in every aspect of American society.

Guns are a symptom of that.

It's a common "argument" from gun-goobers who think they should have a machine gun to play with, too.
90% of the defectives who shill it wouldn't qualify in Switzerland, due to being mentally ill or grossly stupid.

No one is required to serve in the military in Switzerland.
People are required to render some kind of service to the country, but it can be in a civilian capacity if they choose, or are not qualified to serve in the military.
All people are not qualified to serve in the military, or have guns, and Switzerland does not conscript the unqualified.

Guns per 100 people
US.                          122
Iceland.                  31.5
Czech Republic.   12.5

I guess in a sane world, 1/4th and 1/10th the US rate would be considered insanely high.

What's fun about the US is that the rate was 88 per 100 people just 12 years ago. Flooding a country with weapons is a great way to destabilize it and normally a prelude to war or genocide. Really odd that our enemies like Russia have been so supportive of the NRA. Almost like they are intentionally promoting something that will hurt us.

The number one fact they can't swallow is that, yeah - it actually is the guns.

Number of guns per people is not a useful stat IMHO.  More useful to look at the percentage of households with any gun.

It's useful for two reasons. It highlights stockpiling which is indicitive of mindset and it shows the potential scale of distribution in a crisis. Only 20% of households having guns doesn't matter when they hand them out during Sunday service at Calvalry Baptist when Pastor Mike makes the call to arms.

Gun violence correlates more closely with the percentage of people who have access to a fire arm.  That they have access to many is less significant.

The number of guns per 100 people != percentage of population who owns at least 1 gun. Try again.

Yes, which is why I think ownership of firearms should require safety training and such akin to getting a driver's license.  Have to do it to get a hunting license, have to do it to get a carry permit in most sane states.  If you're going to own a goddamn gun, know how to use it safely, handle it safely, what the laws are, and demonstrate you're not a complete moron. And, you know, that you're not the kind of douchebag that doesn't secure their firearms when not in use to prevent unauthorized accesss.

You know, common-sense gun laws.
