The closed the concert with 40 and at least half the crowd was still singing the chorus out in the parking lot afterward.

Los Lobos and Buckwheat Zydeco opened for them... that part was weird.

Saw them again years later on the ZooTV tour... kinda sucked in comparison to the first one.

I've caught them on every tour since the Vertigo tour (2007) and they put on a great show every time.

I wish I was able to catch the Zooropa tour back in the 90s, but alas, I was like 5.

Kings of Leon opened for them when I first saw them during the Vertigo tour and I swear, they were absolute shiat. They played like 4 songs and my buddy and I could not figure out when one ended and a new one began. Even taking into account how shiatty the acoustics in the Garden are, they were just awful.

Blows my mind when I hear them get praised now. Maybe they got better since 07 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Snow Patrol opened for the 360 tour concert, they were pretty good. I ended up listening to some of their stuff after the concert and got into them for a bit

I saw Zoo TV tour when I was 16.  The highlight for me was actually seeing Public Enemy.  U2, like with Los Lobos and Buckwheat Zydeco, liked to have opening acts that were a bit different than their genre.

The also had Bid Audio Dynamite II which was more in their genre.

I saw the humongous U2 concert in Seattle about 10 years back.  Lenny Kravitz opened.   I've seen Lenny headline when Pink opened for him.

I've also heard U2 concerts at Croke Park in Dublin while lying in bed at home, which was pretty nice.

Now that U2 is in the news again lately I've come to realize how much they've all aged since I last gave them any attention. Which I guess was about 15 years ago, so no surprise, really.
Still, it's strange to see them looking so old...

...is what I say everytime I pass a mirror.

Saw them on the War tour at the Worcester Centrum in 1983 (yeah, I'm an old fart), with The Alarm opening. Bono invited some girls up onstage, and one of them handcuffed herself to a chain on Bono's boot. It took the roadies a good 10 minutes to find bolt cutters to cut her loose.

I've seen U2 seven times, but the last was like 10 years ago. Unlike everyone else on FARK, I loved the Pop album and found the resulting tour a lot of fun. I'd thought that I really should see them again the next time they're playing here. Sucks, but not terribly surprising, that Larry is a bit banged up. Btw, Bono's new memoir is really interesting and well written.

would be a shame to see them with a new drummer, even if it were stunt-casting like, Jason Bonham or Dave Grohl, what the fark.  just wouldn't be the same.

So hopeful I get to see them at the rumored 7, 10, 14 or whatever date residency next year in Vegas.  the venue, "The Sphere", is apparently going to be state of the art in terms of light and sound projection, but apparently it is way over budget and way behind schedule, so who knows.  (U2 is supposedly going to be the inaugural performers at the supposed residency).

seen them 10 or so times over the years, since original Joshua Tree.  could not make ZOOTV (thanks, asshole Navy watch officer, I had someone ready to take my watch that night but you had to be a coont about it and denied me going), passed on PopMart because I thought the album sucked.  what an idiot!

but every tour since.  love this band.  get well, Larry!

I've seen them three times now:  Joshua tree in 1987 (when I was 16), during the Vertigo Tour in 2005 and for the Joshua Tree tour in 2017 (with the same group of no-longer teens I saw the original tour with 30 years earlier.  All of them were great shows.  The Vertigo tour opening with City of Blinding Lights (which is great live) and with Gloria and I Will Follow back to back in the meat of the set was especially good.

Can't imagine the band without any of the four, so if Larry needs some time off, I can't imagine they'd hit the road.

Touring is HARD work.  "Oh, you get to travel and see so many places!!!"  Yeah, you sit on a bus, go to a venue or a hotel, pass out whenever you can, soundcheck, hurry up and wait for 3 hours, go berzerker at 150% for 2 hours, back on the bus.  There's a reason so many of those folks are addicted to booze and/or drugs.

Yea, The Alarm also opened a few dates on the JT tour.  I felt ripped off that we got boDeans and not The Alarm, but boDeans turned out to be not terrible.

pretentious has been my assessment of nearly everything about that band since... probly the 'war' record.

/several of my more pompous friends would lecture me about how important u2 was

I saw Ratdog's (BOb Weir's post-GD band) tour itinerary at a show about a decade ago.  (small club, i was right behind the soundboard, which had the setlist and itinerary.

"Arrive Phoenix 8AM, Hotel.
Load in: 4PM
Soundcheck: 530-630
Doors: 7
Show: 8-11
VIP Meet and Greet:  1130 - 1
Load out: 1130-12
Dinner (Band) 1-130
Bus Departs 230AM
Arrive Las Vegas 8AM"

wash rinse repeat, for 25 cities all over the US, maybe 2 days off every 3rd or 4th show.  pretty glamorous life.....

Happens quick... I sometimes think I'm still 18 again, for a brief moment... then flash forward to now and it's just... depressing.

Youth is wasted on the young... I wish I had understood that when the olds tried to warn me all those years ago.

My only time seeing U2 was a totally surreal experience. I was working as a delivery driver in Manhattan in the mid 90s and one day on my route the local rock radio station announced that U2 would be doing an unannounced promo for their new PopMart tour. At the Astor Place Kmart. In 10 minutes.

I was close enough that I was able to get there, double park, and run in and cram myself into the women's lingerie department just in time to see them come out, play a song, and give a bizarre press conference. And then I went back to delivering beer.

They also share all credits and income equally, even writing credits. Groups that stay together for this long tend to have one big ego and the rest willing to take a step back. Get a couple of big egos and breakups are to be expected.
