AI is inherently evil and I can prove it.

Next time you get one of those Captcha things with random letters/ numbers, scream it out in your best Hitler impersonation and a door in your ceiling will appear.

I advise NOT going through the door. That's what happened to Sporkfoot and Boebert.

What? Is it not sufficiently condescending? Or does it answer questions instead of marking repeat because of a 5yo unresolved thread?

Worse still, it provides an answer that is superficially sensible to someone that doesn't really know WTF, but actually farking useless - barring a few easy out answers

StackOverflow is a question-and-answer website for programmers. Allowing answers from chatGPT, or any other chatbot, could potentially provide more answers to programming questions, which could be beneficial to users who are looking for solutions to their problems. Additionally, chatbots can provide answers quickly, which could be helpful in situations where a question needs to be answered urgently.

However, chatbots are not as reliable or accurate as human experts, so the answers they provide may not always be correct or helpful. Allowing answers from chatbots could also dilute the value of the site and reduce its usefulness to its users. Therefore, while allowing answers from chatbots could have some potential benefits, it is generally a better idea to rely on the expertise of the human members of the StackOverflow community to provide accurate and helpful answers to programming questions.

Also, this is a chatGPT-generated answer to "Why is StackOverflow banning chatGPT answers a bad idea?"

I'm gonna need you to spend an hour gathering these random log files then post them. I'm not gonna look at them or anything. I'm either going to recommend running this built in troubleshooter that never works, ghost you or mock you since the answer to your own question is right there but not actually tell you the answer.

Yes, obviously.  Only an AI that didn't know any better would have included the word helpful

Been waiting for that. It's not just that you're getting replies from a stochastic parrot, repeating shiat it's seen & heard with no real comprehension or context, but that you can't use those answers without potentially endangering your IP - if the parrot regurgitates its answer from something it saw on GitHub with a license, you may be stuck dealing with that license.

In a world where provenance decides ownership, using AI to break that chain is a really, really bad idea.

And it may have cribbed that answer from someone else's code, code that has a license which says "sure, you can use this in your app - but it's now open source or I'll ream you with this grapefruit squeezer in a theater full of lawyers and devs." When confronted, the parrot says "*RAWWWR* NOT MY PROBLEM!" and poops on your due diligence.

The Awoi are a happy people, who speak a simple language.  Some of them are quite intelligent especially in urban areas, but many of them are rather naive.

I was sent here years ago to study the Awoi and learn their ways.  Unfortunately for me, my contract keeps getting auto-renewed by some sort of bot, so I can't leave.  Let's learn the ways of the Awoi together!

I'm confused. How is that different? I'm surprised anyone noticed to begin with.

You still need to be careful using code generated by AI software like GPT. It's just blindly regurgitating and reassembling code that was found in it's training set. It sometimes generates shockingly bad code that would seem correct to a newbie. For example I asked it to create a PHP script that takes input from a webpage and write it to a database. While it would look correct to a novice, it's actually a *really* bad solution that doesn't follow best or even adequate practices. It's highly vulnerable to a SQL injection attack.

Not only did the player love the name, it turned him on to MST3K and I made a friend for life.

I'm thinking that it's slowly putting together pieces of SkyNet in these questionable code snippets. Once enough people insert this code into their projects, BAM, it's all over for us humans.

That's actually the Linux help line.

Developers usually ask why do you want to do that?

Hardlock!  If coded internally, spend 6-60 hour rewriting from scratch.  It outsourced, all contract employees spend 4-24 hours rewriting some nonsense that still won't work
