How did they know it was five miles? Did they follow the car and let it drive like that for five miles?

I know, I know, they probably busted him five miles from his house.

If that is a picture of the car in question, there's no way they got five miles before hitting something.

Federal drivers licenses.  And have the military enforce it.

Problem solved.

Make the licenses 100x harder to get.  If you can't pass the exam and have nobody to transport you, or care for you, you are relocated to the nearest mega city.  Where you live in the pods and eat the bugs.  Like a good citizen.  You turn the world engine and don't cause any waves.  When you are tired, you can "go home", with some good drugs and a private Imax show.

All the problems solved.

Well he said his wipers weren't working.

I'd wager he just cleared off the driver's side and called it good, which it isn't. I've seen people driving around here with just a little peep hole cleared off, so it wouldn't surprise me. And you're right, after the car warmed up, and he was pulled over, snow on the roof slid forward and re-covered the windshield. Then the cop took a picture. Oh those adorably impish cops, they'll getcha!

A friend of mine works for WA State Patrol...I sent him a link to TFA, and asked if he knew the trooper(s) involved.

He said no, but I have a hunch he will l know soon:..a story like this is perfect for "water cooler talk".

Pure life. I see people present a problem and I solve it.

What do you suggest to solve the problem? A blue ribbon committee.  A fact finding commission.  Umpteen levels of government paper pushing.  I propose action and change.  I propose real solutions that will work to solve the problem.  As long as we implement them with an iron fist.

Based on the photos, it is pretty clearly the opposite. Snow slid up from the hood to the windshield.

I doubt he cleared his windshield properly. He probably cleared a hole on the driver side but on the rest. Then the snow in the hood was loosened due to engine heat and slid up reducing the cleared area.

That said, it doesn't make a difference if he removed every last speck of snow from his windshields, clear off you freaking hood, roof, and trunk.

From the police tweet, someone called in a car driving erratically. They caught up with him and pulled him over five miles from that report.

It was when I was in college, so I'm going to guess 1992. We got 16" on Saturday and 14" more on Sunday. Most snow I've ever seen in Washington.  Crazy thing was I took the ferry to Seattle and there wasn't a single flake to be seen when I got off the boat.

FTA: "Please take the time to remove all snow from your vehicle before you leave the house."

Pretty sure that if your car is parked inside the house it wouldn't be covered with snow. Conversely, if it's parked outside, it would be quite hard to remove the snow before leaving the house.

Gonna need a loooong squeegee

Years ago I was going to work after a snowstorm and saw an idiot like this, he had only cleared the snow from 1/3 of the drivers side windshield. The rest of the windows, trunk, roof, mirrors, and hood all covered in snow. I gave that idiot a wide berth because there was no way he could see anyone like that. There was at least 8 inches on the roof, hood and trunk so that was a big accident waiting to happen.
