Why don't you just make General higher and make General the top rank and make it a bit higher?

For Pershing and Eisenhower and a few others, they had to keep up with all the Lord High Grand Marshals in European armies. For Washington and Grant it's a waste of time on the level with naming federal buildings.

Another hundred years or so and we will just flange in "Prevalent" above all the generals.

Now that this is getting media attention Senators from a dozen or so states will vote against it

Peter von Nostrand: We're going to resurrect him and have him burn Florida, Alabama and Mississippi to the ground?

Given how strongly the water smells of sulfur in the greater Tampa area, this may already be happening.

/blinking twice for help, as I woke up in Florida this morning for some reason

The guy is dead and his project failed, look at the Confederates still all around. Why the f*ck are we wasting money on this?

What about all the generals on the Confederate side?  There were many military geniuses and men of unparalleled leadership, who were only overcome by the North's overwhelming resources, is what the Virginia Public School System taught me.

They were losers.

That's the problem with public education, they celebrate losers.

Grant also came up with the idea of buying the Dominican Republican so disenfranchised blacks would have a place to go to and not have to stay in the South.

His memoir is considered one of the greatest Presidential memoirs in history. He goes all up on the confederates. He unleashed Sherman and Sheridan. All the time deathly afraid of the sight of blood. He was a weirdo and a brilliant drunk. The best kind of drunk.

/ Bad President but hey he didn't do crimes just his administration.

2022-12-05 6:33:55 PM
Multiple times during the war he honored the dignity of his defeated adversaries, most famously at Appomattox, where he did not require Lee to hand over his sword, as usually required. Grant also allowed Confederate officers to keep their sidearms and horses.

And this is why problems continue to this day. He gave dignity to people who deserved none.

Napoleon had 26 Marshals and about half of them might have been worth a damn. Although some (like Berthier) were phenomenal quartermaster and supply people.

Except the bomb missed. Ferdinand was killed by a bullet, when his car made a wrong turn and stopped infont of the bomb maker when he was at a cafe. He walked up and shot him and his wife in the head.

I mean honestly, when you consider how hard he went to beat back the klan and keep freedmen safe in the south, you can make a case he should be one of the Rushmore faces (well, we shouldn't have defaced a sacred mountain, but I mean the conceptual Rushmore, top four and only four).

A lot of mostly good politicians past and present would have shied away from actually using the military against the klan. Would have called it controversial or divisive or whatever. Would have gone half measure. The guy was a drunk and allowed a fair amount of corruption along the way, definitely flawed on a lot of levels, but he did a few bold good things, damn the critics. I respect that.

Two generals that actually make and keep an agreement not to backbite each other?  They tend to become a one big damn gorilla in military politics.  No matter what you're doing, you're gonna get a hell of a lot more done if you've got someone you can trust to have your back - 'cause you can't watch your own for shiat

He didn't give a damn about much but beating the South finally and decisively - the rest could run however it ran as long as it ran.  You did the job?  Good enough.  The klan?  Nothing but the same rebels out of uniform, stomp 'em.  Corruption?  Does it impair the primary goal?  No?  Whatever... moving on to more stomping
