Cannabis remains a Schedule 1 drug, like heroin and LSD, under federal law, but at least 20 states and the District of Columbia have so far legalized marijuana for non-medical use.

This is coming from a drunk, not a pothead so I have no skin in the game but does anyone else think this is farked up?

The GOP House agenda is going to be threefold:

1) Hunter Biden 24/7
2) Defund public services and grind government to a halt
3) Propose endless bullsh#t poison pill legislation designed to provide 2024 campaign talking points

I predict they'll also find a way to wrap all three into one tidy little bundle of bullplop.

Odd how it works out too. Despite roughly equal usage rates, Blacks are 3.73 times more likely than whites to be arrested for marijuana.

Nixon's draconian pot laws came near the end of the Vietnam war because he was pissed off that he couldn't arrest war protesters and blacks for no reason, so he tacked on harsh punishment for miniscule amounts of weed.

That's part of #3.   They'll work bigoted clauses into unrelated bills and force Dems to vote against them.  General spending, grandmother abuse protections, whatever.  They'll find bills that should pass and insert horrible Nazi anchors and force Dems to "vote to kill grandma".

At that point, everything else falls into place fairly neatly.

This doesn't even legalize marijuana. It just legalizes banks doing business with marijuana companies. You know...commerce.

If women wanted their rights to be protected, they'd created a full industry that has a lobbying group and can withhold money until they get those rights. Until then, you're as SOL as the pot users in Kentucky.

In before cannabevets.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endocannabinoid_system

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors (CBRs), and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the vertebrate central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system.[1][2] The endocannabinoid system remains under preliminary research, but may be involved in regulating physiological and cognitive processes, including fertility,[3] pregnancy,[4] pre- and postnatal development,[5][6][7] various activity of immune system,[8] appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the pharmacological effects of cannabis.[9][10] The ECS plays an important role in multiple aspects of neural functions, including the control of movement and motor coordination, learning and memory, emotion and motivation, addictive-like behavior and pain modulation, among others.[11]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid_receptor

Cannabinoid receptors, located throughout the body, are part of the endocannabinoid system - a class of cell membrane receptors in the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily.[1][2][3][4]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid

Cannabinoids (/kəˈnæbənɔɪdzˌ ˈkænəbənɔɪdz/) are several structural classes of compounds found in the cannabis plant primarily and most animal organisms (although insects lack such receptors) or as synthetic compounds.[1][2]

The latest changes to the bill ensure that the legislation does not unintentionally make it harder for law enforcement to prosecute other crimes involving other drugs or money laundering.

Schumer and the bipartisan group plan to attach this legislation to a must-pass year-end bill like the annual National Defense Authorization Act.

Schumer and Sen. Jeff Merkley have been working with Republicans for months, including Sens. Steve Daines, Rand Paul, and Dan Sullivan.

I guess these baby steps is progress, but by not addressing the elephant in the room, they are not addressing the real problem and why legislation regarding the banking is even needed. Legalize it, then it falls under regular in place business laws.

It's as if to get moderate Republican votes for legislation, the moderate Republicans have to agree with said legislation. Votes that are not there for more left leaning legislation. In order to pass by reconciliation it has to be a budgetary item that does not add to the deficit. Despite the apparent chip on your shoulder, when legislation you support cannot get the votes needed to pass, it is not part of a secret agenda to silence leftists. It's just a numbers thing.

How stupid do we look letting banks loan for it, people grow it, stores sell it, but we still list it as one of the most dangerous  drugs known to man?
