I do suck at games, which is why I stopped playing them multiplayer. Now I play single-player games and can enjoy my failures in solitude.

Puglio: NeoCortex42: It's no secret that there's bots.  Up until a certain level, all players play entirely against bots.  Also, the bots are incredibly easy to beat.  When I first started out, I was winning at least 90% of my games against bots.  Once I started getting paired with human players, that dropped quickly.

FWIW, I'm enjoying the game, and I haven't spent a single dime on it.

They've got to have that period to get you hooked.

It reminds me of Magic: The Gathering Arena matching you against noobs for your first 50 or so matches before dumping you into the general matchmaking pool. I went from winning about 75% of games to about 10%.

It's a great time to quit the game when that happens. Sure you could grind your way up, but why be miserable?


The funny thing about how they match you with other humans is that it's primarily based on collection level, not playing level. The people who dumped a pile of cash on the game hoping to win are actually at a disadvantage vs the players that play/ grind their way up.

It's like buying a maxed out character in an MMO. Yeah, all of the abilities and toys are the same, but the whale doesn't have the personal experience actually playing the game.

There are bots for sure in the game, they're easy and make obvious mistakes.

You know you've hit a human player when they start busting out the latest OP strategy, probably from the same forum you read it on, so that both of you are essentially racing to pull off the latest recommended scripting strategy.

/we were the bots the whole time!

Stopped playing online collectible card games like Hearthstone because they all gravitate to aggro, the most boring playstyle there is.

Outlast and win on last card being better than his?
Turn the game into a bizarre, unpredictable clown fiesta on every turn that frustrates the simple minded?
Use (or counter) a build up into a one-turn combo kill?
Take a gamble on crazy mechanics and poison his deck with damaging or worthless cards, steal his deck or burn his cards before played?

Nope, just focus on winning by piling the table with cheap shiat as fast as you can. Repeatedly. And with free refills on garbage too.

I'm the guy who had 3 - 4 of every card from Unlimited Edition / Arabian Nights / Antiquities-era MtG, including all the banned/restricted ones like Moxes and Sol Rings. The only way I could get people to play with me was their constructed decks vs. me buying and assembling something using a Started Deck and two random boosters.

Same experience. I only won occasionally, and usually because of the dumbest cards, like an Envenom I could grab out of the graveyard or a Mana Barbs. That made the wins way, way more fun than throwing down a deck with a reliable two or three turn win.

(My cards got ruined when a tree fell on my car during a storm and broke open the sterilite container they were in, which filled with water and eventually mold. They are past-tense Black Lotuses now).

Anyway, the thing that sucks here (per my roommate, who plays Marvel Snap) is that there are cheaty bots that play at higher levels than noob. I'm not sure if there's anything in the game's TOS about always playing human opponents or if the high level bots are someone's AI research, but the bots win a lot more than they lose and I can see how that would be a drag for people who actually put a lot of thought into their play.

My favorite deck I use us just randomness. Can't counter my strategy when even I don't know what it is.

Almost every accusation of an opponent cheating is just someone not paying attention to a card/location.

As for high-level bots, there's really only three levels for matchmaking right now. Within each card pool, they're given out randomly. So you can be in the same tier as your opponent but face cards you don't have yet. But you'll also likely have cards they don't.

Too weak my first tournament had multiple players with no land just moxes. Had a guy with ornithopters, and moxes win. His opponent had a stack of racks, time twisters and time walks. They went on to create legend of the five rings. I came in third with a solid white circle of protection deck. I beat Dave with my entire deck in my hand using a combo of eye for an eye, reverse damage and exploding my personal incarnation. I got to turn 6 before he took 30 straight turns in a row.
