At Home with Baker Mayfield has a new meaning...

He's in Santa Clara by the end of the day

He's much better at commercials than football. I'm thinking San Francisco will pick him up given their current QB situation.

It's so sad... that the Browns were right. Well, eventually. They did draft him after all.

Too bad. Seemed like a decent guy and appeared at one time to be a serviceable QB.

/f the browns

OptionC: He's in Santa Clara by the end of the day

Rams have higher priority, have lost Stafford, and have an interest in not letting the 9ers have him.

To look at it another way, he and OBJ are teammates again on the free agent list! Seriously though the way he was handled at the end in Cleveland with them waiting until the last minute so he couldn't get proper off season time in with Carilina didn't help him at all.

2022-12-05 1:12:19 PM
I'm not convinced he's completely healthy.

After the labrum injury, he started doing something really curious. He started throwing more off his back foot. I'm not sure if he couldn't throw correctly because he was favoring the injury a certain way, but that injury really screwed up his mechanics.

Serious suggestion: The Rams could probably use him, and perhaps McVay can work with him the same way he helped Goff.

Do the Rams really want to win at this point?  Getting their 2nd and 3rd round picks as high as possible would seem to be a better long term move at this point.

I think they do, actually. Without draft picks they need to appeal to free agents. Sure some will just sign for a paycheck but that's not going to lead to wins

I guess that's better than being a Baker's Cyst.

2022-12-05 2:09:00 PM
The Rams may go after him just to make sure the 49ers don't get him, the head coaches seem to have that kind of competition going.

Seems to be the consensus. However Purdy had a great game on Sunday, I am not so certain the need is strong enough to take on an iffy QB.

/ Plus probably salary issues.

You can take the quarterback out of Cleveland, but you can't take Cleveland out of the quarterback.

2018 first-round QBs:

Baker Mayfield
Sam Darnold
Josh Allen
Josh Rosen
Lamar Jackson

And the two QBs on that list that got the harshest pre-draft criticism from the so-called draft experts, were Allen and Jackson.

The pundits don't know anything.

Pundits in politics, business, and sports aren't hired on the basis of their ability to make good predictions.  They're simply paid to be entertaining.

Purdy had one good game against a team that prepared for a different QB. And the NFL has had plenty of QBs that had one or two great games to open their career and promptly fell off as defenses figured them out. That is a lot to bet your season on. And, as bad as Mayfield is, picking him up is probably your best bet to win.

Salary cap nd toehr issues, I don't know about. But if you can fit him on your roster, the Niners need to take him, given a chance

I agree he'll be a Niner. They have one QB right now and he was the last puck in the draft. Their other two are gonzo for the rest of the year.

What, they gonna bring back Kaepernick?

LOL. I'm a former Browns fan who actually liked Baker. I quit rooting for the Browns when they went pants-on-head for Watson. I adopted a new team, the 49ers. I've seen them have success with a rotating cast of QBs.

C'mon out to Santa Clara, Baker. The weather's nice.

See, I don't understand why Browns fans couldn't just look a few hours away to a team in their division that's usually far more successful, and naturally hates the Browns.

We're predisposed to hate the Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals.

The closest crossover is the Bills.

That would be like asking the Eagles fans to root for the Giants (or either fanbase to root for the Cowboys), or for Yankees/Red Sox or Giants/Dodgers fans to switch sides, or Red Wings fans to instead follow the Avs. It's just not something done without a large amount of reprogramming.

The bargain bin is better than their current dumpster diving for Jacob Eason and Josh Johnson.

It shouldn't take much to "prepare" for a 7th round rookie QB. If there was anything to figure out, he would have been drafted higher.

It's easy to do:  show off the six Lombardis.  Remind them we also hate the Ratbirds, Bungles, and Art Modell.

I really still think the Browns should have taken Saquon Barkley. So they and the Panthers get this:
