If that wasn't the case they's have called themselves ticketservant, or ticketslave....

I don't get Taylor Swift and her music at all, but if the Swifties want to take down Ticketmaster, by all means proceed and you go girl.

You know what the means, right?

Swifties will be named as 'State sponsors of terrorism'

The bombing will begin in 5 minutes.

It's painfully obvious they are correct, but isn't this the case with all capitalist endeavours?

That sounds modest.

The plaintiffs will each get a $25 credit to a future Ticketmaster event in the next 12 months.

That will almost cover the convenience fees.

They should all just band together and start their own competing company, Maybe Taylor Swift will support them,

Or even better they can quit wasting their money going to the concerts that are overpriced to begin with

And it won't work on presale or resale tickets.

The fans have no chance on this. I don't think they even have standings.

Now the venues could take an antitrust shot at them due to the anti-competitive environment TM has created. In a way the fans are kind of lucky. TM could run their sales like eBay and every seat would be bid on.

Aside from expressing disappointment through publicists, I haven't seen Taylor do or say much about it.* Pearl Jam were incredibly animated. Pearl Jam took on TM and simply refused to use them for ticketing/promotions, cooperated with federal investigations into the matter, and were incredibly vocal about it. Nothing really happened. Maybe Taylor has more leverage but I don't see her using it.

*Relying on info from Fark on this one. I don't care for her music either and don't pay her much/any attention.

I think the difference is in the people wanting action.

In the PJ situation, it was PJ themselves. Now, nothing to sneeze at as far as talent goes, but in this case you have....

relatively well-off parents of teenage girls who are used to getting what they want, no matter the cost. If Pearl Jam no longer wants to use Ticketmaster, then TM only loses the one band and associated revenue. If TM pisses off the Saturday Soccer Mom Crowd, the revenue hit is much greater cause now you can't sell tix to Tay, Ed Sheeran, whatever boy band is popular. These are demon spawn coming at TicketMaster now, and not in the "Rock is the Devil" way. These women will be out for literal blood because Kayden wasn't able to see Taylor Swift for less than the price of a decent automobile.

True. But Taylor could simply announce "I'm not using TM". She could cancel existing tour plans and start from scratch (she's got the money to make that happen). But so far she's simply expressing disappointment and raking in the TM tour $$.

I don't know a TON about the touring music industry, but isn't this kind of our of her hands? Isn't this mostly a venue issue and that the venues that can hold her show have exclusivity agreements with TM? It's not that Taylor Swift decided to use TicketMaster instead of something else, it's that the venues themselves have contractual obligations. I guess Swift could have played smaller venues, but then we'd be seeing the same scalping going on anyway.

Lots of middle America teenage Caucasian girls listening to Pearl Jam?

Another part of the problem is the math. Someone did the calculations, and basically, WAY more people wanted tickets than  there were available seats. So Tay Tay needs to do continuous concerts for the next five years or so. Maybe then she won't have time to whine about her exes, Kanye, or whatever else upset her that week.

Besides, I think her time is almost up anyway. The next big thing is getting closer.

Wow, a woman posting who is trying to invalidate a successful, independent, and expressive young woman. Oddly harsh.

And in case you haven't noticed in the 13 years since Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech-- he's the massively self-centered and hateful person, not her.

Some sort of Dutch auction model could work. When sales open, price the seats at something ridiculous like $10,000 each. Drop the prices over time, reaching $1 when the doors open. You can buy in at whatever price you're willing to pay, unless the event sells out first.

on one side a bunch of teenie boppers who are willing to shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a concert and still biatch about the price ; the other is Ticketmaster.

There aren't many venues that seat over 1,000 people in the US that don't have exclusive contracts with TM. PJ tried and ended up playing in ersatz outdoor spaces and tiny venues. Then they admitted defeat.

Then play smaller venues and ersatz outdoor spaces. Be less greedy and make a huge stink about it. You don't change TM by being disappointed.

i mean... america is kind of in the thrall of 'lol broke biatches cant afford the cool stuff' mindset lo these last few decades. its possible that something like taylor swift could be the straw that broke the camels back and turn america back to the trust busting that was the hallmark of the early 20th century.
but probly not. but maybe.
apparently the birmingham bus boycott was broken because well off white ladies had to do their own chores. maybe this is like that

It's not against her in general, I just think yes, she's talented, but she's also a bit overrated. But then I'm an older fart, so what do I know? I even used to be a fan until all her stuff seemed to start sounding the same. Then all the drama started, and I noped out.

I went to see Swift at FedEx Field in DC during her last tour.

No, no she could NOT play smaller venues. Jesus, stadiums are barely big enough for the crowds she's drawing. I paid extra to get field level seats and there was one point where an army of teenage girls decided "fark it, we're gonna get close to Tay-tay" and rushed the field and my buddy and I just bailed for the upper levels. Life's too short to get trampled to death by teenagers.

I cscan dis her, she's talented for sure. I liked her song:"Lover".

Ticketmaster is the devil and in a righteous world DOJ would bust that Monopoly. Swift should go to Washington and appear before Congress.
