Unfortunately, the studios gave up caring about movie quality decades ago.   Netflix just continues the bad movies.

I can't think of a recent Affleck movie that was better than some of the offerings by Netflix.

Maybe Gone Girl. But that movie was carried by Rosamund Pike.

I would think that the guy with an Oscar for directing might know a thing or two about making good movies.

Release 500 original movies a year and the couch-ridden masses won't have time to notice how shiatty they are.

Yeah, in the crappiest movies.

And "best Batman" isn't a high-bar. At least for live-action. Conroy forever.

The Town and Argo were perfectly cromulent.

Argo would be the last one I could think of but it was a good one. He doesn't really have much ground to criticize though, with half or more of his recent filmography being cash grab sequels (Clerks III) or superhero genre, awful ones at that.

Argo was good, but I attribute that to having a very strong, experienced cast.
I know Affleck directed it, but I can't believe that some of the actors did not influence some of his directing calls.

I'm not sure "unit costs" work out.

Say a studio makes a movie that profits $10 million, and 1 million people see it. You can do the math and see that you made $10 profit per user.

But Netflix makes hundreds and hundreds of movies -- and the most they will ever see is roughly $10 per person, per month. And that $10 is revenue, not profit after costs.

I just don't see the math working out.

Off Topic:  "TV" shows in ultrawide?

Just watched Hawkeye, Falcon and Loki series. They are in ultra-wide monitor or maybe movie theater aspect ratio. So you get black bars on a 16:9 monitor or TV. They are streaming TV shows, not movies to be shown in theaters.
Why? When did this start? Who else is doing this?

The last Ben Affleck movie I watched was Deep Water on Amazon Prime (I think it is on Hulu in the US). It was terrible. Does he really think that Prime or Hulu are better at making movies than Netflix? Because if he is does maybe he is on the sauce again.

My dude, with very few exceptions, most streaming service original movies are trash.

Watch Halt & Catch Fire if you haven't seen it. These same two play a couple. It's fantastic.

This.  Dahmer was relatively low budget and is their most financially successful offering to date.

It might have a little to do with the fact that he's a stunningly bad actor.

Don't really think Clerks III falls into the "cash grab sequel" column.  He probably did that as a favor for Kevin Smith, and he was probably paid in bagels.
