You build both skills and nine scars over time.
Makes sense if you know that ball but it got tighter on your fingers over time, that a new fit would improve your score

Ya gotta open up the ball, change the bowling fluid and tune the gyroscope.  After that, it's like a brand new ball.

I'll give you a discount on service if you pay in cash.

My late father in law was a big bowler. He had custom balls and rolled 300 games regularly.

I took dates to the lanes, broke 100 sometimes, and had a lot of fun.

I haven't bowled in about ten years and I can't get my thumb in the ball anymore. Any my span just keeps getting bigger. Seems weird to me.

Had my knee fixed up, maybe I can try the game again.

800+ score in three games. That's not easy. Perfect is 900. So 8/9s perfect. Best I ever bowled was ONE game of 200+ and I worked at a bowling alley. Not easy at all.

Miller moved right and said despite the adjustment, he grabbed it at the bottom and crashed the pocket. He said the hit was better than the 11th, but once again the 6-8 were the final pins to topple for 300.

One thing about Fark I noticed over the years - more than any sport or game there are a bunch of people with multiple 300's.

If Fark ever sponsored a team or event, bowling probably would have been the most successful.  10-20 years ago becaise we're all old.

That overly long, incredibly detailed report on a meaningless event reminds me of the golden age of Fark. Each new paragraph outlining exactly how the pins fell for each ball thrown filled me with nostalgia for the good old days of not news.

Exactly! Reading that gibberish of bowling terms the astute writer was slinging in those pin descriptions was a joyful experience. I wasn't pondering how these events would possibly destabilize western democracy further or worried that they might inspire some fanatic to murder innocents in the streets. Just savoring how much effort went into describing the pin falls, though I could have used a few more paragraphs on the redrilling.

"About five weeks ago I had my ball re-drilled and it's made a difference. It just feels better, and I had 762 the first match with my 10-year-old Motiv Revolt."

Motiv Revolt is a horrible name for a kid. Some men shouldn't be parents in the first place, let alone have their ball re-drilled (reverse a vasectomy) so they can sire more children.

I picked up the game late. Started bowling on my father's team a couple of years ago. Just watched him bowl his first 300 game 2 weeks ago at age 71. Old farker still carries a 185 average. Don't think I have enough time left to get that good, lol.

Kyle Butler: Yes, but how is he at candlepin bowling?

[upload.wikimedia.org image 850x850]

That shiat is brutal. Living in greater Boston for several years, sometimes friends would invite me bowling and not specify in advance that it was candlestick. The pins are so heavy and prone to staying in place against the light and tiny ball that it's just not fun.

After a few frames, you'll think you've adjusted and fire a strike exactly at the center pin... and 2-3 pins, max, will fall down.

Here's just like my opinion, man.....

The guy re-drilled a 10 year old ball instead of buying a new one.

I spent 6 months in Lehigh Valley for work a few years ago and there is something about the people in the area that refuse to spend money, the old Pennsylvania Dutch, Deutsch, or however its called. Not only in their personal lives, but with corporate funds. Several of my coworkers spent hours on Ebay buying up used Semiconductor Equipment parts from China, that may need repairs also, instead of ordering a known working unit with a warranty from the EOM to save some money... maybe. Manhours lost usually ate into any parts savings but they never changed until the company moved to Tempe, AZ. Everyone that was a native to Lehigh stayed there because it cost money to move.

Good for him, re-drilling older stuff saves money as long as it isn't tracked/worn out. An 800 series is WAY harder to get than a 300 game, it's a huge accomplishment. I would think a 57 year-old carrying 226 would have had an 800 before, but it doesn't happen for everyone This guy is left handed, lefties can walk into a bowling center and throw 300's at will (1), but it's still awesome.

There's new equipment coming out all the time, it's almost impossible to keep up with it all. Lately - last 7-10 years - it more about weight block shapes and sizes than the actual coverstock of the ball (2). As he says, new balls are at least $200, if you want latest and greatest you will pay $250+.

1. Not true, just something us righthanders say to left handers to piss them off.
2. As a rule, the cover of the ball tells it how much to hook, the weight block tells it when to hook.

Nana's Vibrator: One thing about Fark I noticed over the years - more than any sport or game there are a bunch of people with multiple 300's.

Honestly, perfect/300 games are not that uncommon in leagues anymore, so anyone who's taken bowling seriously in the last 20 years likely has at least a handful of 300's. I started bowling in the early 1980's, and 300 games were very rare. The equipment wasn't all that great until late 80's, plus if anyone actually threw a 300, the governing board would send out a team to measure the oil on the lanes - the amount and the placement of the oil. If they found a pattern that showed the oil helped the ball into the pocket, your 300 game was not sanctioned. All that changed with the advent of reactive resin balls which hooked like mad (increasing angle into the pins - more strikes), and what's called short oil patterns. Theoretically, you could put any pattern of oil on the lane as long as you didn't go past....32 feet it think?....and any 300 game would be sanctioned. Overnight 300 games went from ~5 per year (in Detroit area anyway) to 30 per week. Twice I've split high game of the night with 300 between 2 of us.

So yeah...you get a group of people who bowl weekly, you're going to hear about 300 games. It's still really cool - I display my award game rings proudly on my basement bar - it's just not as uncommon as one might think.

Thanks. Losing a sibling is really awful. Learned that bowling shoes are very asymmetric, depending on which is the forward foot. That 845 included a 300 game. Go bro!
