Not gonna lie, but their ability to find a solution that will only make the problem worse in the long run is kind of impressive.

I thought the way to attract qualified workers is to incentivize them with good pay and positive vibes.  This kind of despair stinks.  And it is self-perpetuating.

In response to Oklahoma's continued teacher shortage, lawmakers passed a measure that no longer requires educators to have a college degree in order to teach permanently in public schools.

Supporters claim the law will make it easier for doctors, lawyers and other trained professionals to enter the teacher pipeline

What? I would never go to a doctor that went to one of them fancy medical schools for a "medical degree." I prefer to go to a mystical hobo that is guided by the holy spirit to heal with his magical hands. Nor would I hire an attorney who went to an out of touch uppity CRT-ridden law school, when I could have a self-taught sovereign citizen legal scholar (expert in the Constitution as he understands it and gold fringe) serve as my legal counsel.

You really don't think a doctor would be willing to give up a medical practice to make $30,000 a year teaching middle school students on weekdays before spending all weekend grading?

Yes, but only from Trump University or Liberty University with degrees in theological medicine. You know, pray the illness away.

eurotrader: The republican solution to a lack of qualified teachers is to eliminate public education and replace it with daycare and bible study

No no, that's a few steps down the road. First they had to bleed out school districts and make teachers lives hell. Then they will say "oh, wow, people don't wanna teach! Must be all those qualifications they have to have!"

Then scores will keep going down ne then they'll make it crappier for teachers and test scores will fall and then they'll say "public schools are incapable of educating our kids!"

THEN they push for complete elimination of public schools. They'll be pushing privatization the whole time, of course, so they have those schools in place to fleece everyone. THEN it's all-Bible, all the time.

Between the pre-ordained "teach the controversy" lesson plans and the state-mandated textbooks, it doesn't actually seem like teachers have much room to "teach" these days. If it were up to conservatives, the role of "teacher" would just be 50% dictation from a page and 50% babysitting (with a paddle, of course.)

Maybe putting incompetent teachers into the classroom is just a secondary benefit.

The school lunch program was literally created as a national security issue. So many were malnourished during the WWII draft that Congress created it in 1946 to ensure that wouldn't happen again. Or is "That the joke.jpg"
