(The Hill)   Yes, Senator Ernst, the Democratic party was deliberately flipping *you* off by moving their primary from Iowa to South Carolina. The Democratic party should choose Samuel L. Jackson to deliver their brief retort   (thehill.com) divider line

Iowa we should be first in the nation because middle America is Real America with Real Americans
You know White, Christian but we can't say that last part

The parties should have moved to a rotating schedule of primaries and caucuses.  Letting Iowa and New Hampshire "lead" the nation hasn't been doing anyone any favors.  Except for the media in those states.

Also brings in more Porkbarrel money to Iowa and NH and helps conservative candidates

This move away from the Iowa caucus going first ought to have happened lots of years ago. And, frankly, middle America deserves all of the fingers, unsolicited and otherwise:

As an iowan I'm fine with voting for who I want on election day, and don't care about who votes first in a caucus vote.

*I am ok with democrats giving breadbags a middle finger though.

Neither of these f*cking states should be the torch bearer for the DEMOCRATIC party.

South Carolina shiats all over itself to give corporate subsidies and tax breaks for companies to move there. How do they do that? By having California, New York, and other blue states subsidize their atrocious government spending.

Basically blue states are PAYING SOUTH CAROLINA to take their industry, and we're supposed to REWARD that state? F*ck this timeline.

2022-12-04 1:21:36 PM
The senator also expressed concern about how many of "those people" he sees in television commercials all the time.

2022-12-04 1:48:24 PM
But the move also risks alienating midwestern and working class voters who Democrats have struggled to message toward.

Are voters really going to put off that badly for not being first?  I just don't see it.

Fark that shiat, and fark them.  The first states to primary (caucuses are dumb as fark and should be banned) should change each election cycle.

I'm all for moving it out of Iowa and finding a more diverse place, but I'm sure they could find somewhere with similar demographics that's voted swung Blue on presidential elections since *checks notes* 1976. Georgia, as an example.

Realistically, New York and california should have the primaries first at the same time.

Then if middle America doesn't like the results, join together and vote for someone else.

I don't give a care if you want a 1st state, a guinea pig. Pick any random state, or keep it Iowa. Idgaf.

But let's grow some balls and have 1 day of primaries. The 6 month circus, but the party decides by month 2, is just democracy playhouse.

2022-12-04 5:28:57 PM
I would have suggested Illinois as the least insane of the Midwestern states but i'm okay with any place but Iowa because Fark them and their demographics.

The first primaries should just go to which states' congressmen has the highest batting average during the Congressional softball game. Duh.

2022-12-04 5:33:44 PM
Shouldn't the blue party have their first primary in a blue state?  South Carolina is like... South Carolina. They haven't voted for a Democrat since Carter.  If we're going to stagger primaries, they should be one of the last.

Then-Senator Obama also talked about this back in 2008:

"So, it depends on where you are, but I think it's fair to say that the places where we are going to have to do the most work are the places where people feel most cynical about government. The people are mis-appre...I think they're misunderstanding why the demographics in our, in this contest have broken out as they are. Because everybody just ascribes it to 'white working-class don't wanna work -- don't wanna vote for the black guy.' That's...there were intimations of that in an article in the Sunday New York Times today - kind of implies that it's sort of a race thing.

Here's how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it. And when it's delivered by -- it's true that when it's delivered by a 46-year-old black man named Barack Obama, then that adds another layer of skepticism.

But -- so the questions you're most likely to get about me, 'Well, what is this guy going to do for me? What's the concrete thing?' What they wanna hear is -- so, we'll give you talking points about what we're proposing -- close tax loopholes, roll back, you know, the tax cuts for the top 1 percent. Obama's gonna give tax breaks to middle-class folks and we're gonna provide health care for every American. So we'll go down a series of talking points.

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there's not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you'll find is, is that people of every background -- there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you'll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I'd be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you're doing what you're doing."

Wasn't Michigan also rumored to have been considered to be the first primary state? That would have made a lot of sense since Michigan always carriesca lot of weight in the part of the primary cycle its in already.

Would suck from a media circus standpoint though. Bunch of politicians will have to do their pandering at Meijer now instead of HyVee.

It's not that they're not going to be first; it's that the Democrats are rejecting them. At least that's how Republicans will spin it.

Regardless of anything at all to do with primaries, is there any particular reason that the entire Democratic party *shouldn't* collectively be specifically flipping Joni Ernst off???

Nobody wants to be in Michigan in February.

I'm sure this has nothing whatsoever to do with Biden's dismal fourth-place showing in Iowa or Jim Clyburn's decision to deliver South Carolina to Biden, securing his place in the general.

Nope. Nosiree. Nothing at all.

That said, to his credit, Biden does do the reacharound, and that's more than TFG ever did.

But it'd be nice if Democrats had the goddam sense to not replace a red state so dumb it elected Steve King with another red state so dumb it keeps electing Lindsey Graham.

I would think you want to hold it in a bellwether state that has proven predictive more often than not or at least a swing state that might indicate which way the wind is blowing.

That leadoff state should be as close as possible to being a cross-section of national demographics, where we have long had a reasonable - but not an absolute lock of a - chance of picking up EVs (unless we want to keep being strategic imbeciles that pay no heed to the unique set of rules that a POTUS race entails).

/and we shouldn't give it to a low-population state either, for that matter
//i like the idea of giving it to nevada
