How about we all just get our shiat together and stop pointing fingers at each other?

Every single group has got their black sheep in a closet somewhere they don't want to talk about. What about them first? You know who I'm talking about!

Let's all fix the problems in our own house before we start pointing fingers and burning down the other houses.

Maybe white people as a whole should get their shiat together?  I mean, they voted for that holy trinity of racist, misogynist,  xenophobe.

I realize I'm leaving out a lot of other types of hate exposed by the man almost half of voters said "Yeah, that's someone I can support to represent America."

I tried to read the comments for Shabat 54b (and 55a), that section.  Rashi and Steinsalz are neither translated to English.

I was looking for what if you protest and its fails to change anything.  And, if assuming failure, when do you know you have done your duty?  Do you keep records as a matter of discipline?  At what point is civil disobedience not further condoned.  Does modern voting count?

We're in a weird moment where sometimes you have to (or at least feel compelled to) talk about the obvious, even if it's annoying. Watch the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, where they inducted an Entertainment Lawyer, Allan Grubman, and inductor John Melancamp, one of his many clients, was SO aware of the antisemitic knee-jerk reaction to a Jewish lawyer being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that he basically replaced half his speech with an awkward discussion of rising antisemitism.  It was weird, frankly not really well expressed, but Mellancamp certainly wasn't wrong in his impression of what the induction would trigger.  A behind the scenes JEWISH power broker, a lawyer, getting public recognition?  You just know what some viewers were muttering to themselves.  Anyway, here's where that happens...

A good poster on fark told me that no, in fact that is wrong! Wrong! Wrong!  We need to constantly put them in the limelight so that everyone knows that they exist, as ignoring them only makes them stronger!

I remember this because I think it was the first time some good fine fark poster called me a tankie.  And then went further saying  that I was calling for the subjugation of Ukraine. And iirc they also said that my statements were somehow akin to me saying a woman deserves harrassment for wearing a skirt.

I'm not kidding.

The takeaway from all this, before you accuse me of getting on my cross or making it about me, is that dark is NOT the place for any sane discourse.

Carry on.

Ignoring them is horrible advice.  I roll my eyes hard when people suggest it.  It's an oversimplified bullshiate non-solution tossed out by people who don't actually want to deal with a problem.  It's lazy, and ineffective.

We don't control Reich Wing media.  Or streaming resources now available to anyone.  These people have platforms no matter what.  "Ignoring them" in regular media just lessens the pressures against them.  True, some thrive on each bit of extra attention, and it's even true that being a target of journalists might net them bigger contributions from right wing sources and make them bigger heroes of that movement, but there's an endless supply of money, and an endless supply of other nazi wannabees to replace them.  Ignoring them and one earning less in favor of another seems good, until you realize another will simply get that money and attention.  Whereas if say, an Alex Jones gets roasted in the media, that encouraged more successful lawsuits against him, and aside from the money he pays out for those, he also becomes an object lesson in consequences to the other hatemongers as a result.

The media has to get better in HOW they talk about these people.  Not simply stop.

Sefaria has the main test translated (which you may have seen). The Rashi doesn't add much: clarifies that the text means "would be punished for" (which the translation already did), and (I think) that "the whole world" means that "in all of worldwide Jewry, leaders that people fear (e.g. a monarch) or respect have a duty to mobilize their followers against injustice".

At any rate, the text says that we must protest these injustices, not that we must be successful in preventing or fixing them. Similar to (Avot 2:20): "it is not your responsibility to finish the work, but neither are you exempt from doing it."

It depends, if you have someone who worked by being a troll like Milo, ignoring is helpful, because he operated via negative attention and liberal hate of him. There wasn't anything to his celebrity except pissing people off and serving as a mirror for various self styled YouTube cultural critics. Attention only increased his social media reach.

But in the case of influential celebrities who otherwise have normal fans that might decide to hate Jews because their idol does then it's nothing to ignore.
