Not only does it rain a lot here, the rain is cold. Very cold. There is a reason why flannel is a sensible clothing option.

I doubt Georgia has ever had to experience such wet misery.

My usual voting place at the community center wasn't there this year, so it was city hall instead, and they did not have enough extra parking for it.  My mother and I decided to drive home, then walk up there to vote.  15 minutes to get there, an hour to wait in line, then 15 minutes to walk home.

It's hard to say it was deliberate, but I do live in a quite diverse part of St. Louis County.

Are Republicans afraid of the rain? Do Dems enjoy standing in long lines during thunder storms? I don't understand why Walker is at a disadvantage due to weather. :/

I'm convinced at this point Mr. Walker was chosen simply to portray the racist stereotype of a black man in Republican eyes so their voters can say "AHM NAWT RAWCIST!!! I DUN VOTED FOR A BLECK MAHN!!!"

Therefore racism no longer exists and suck it libs.

You have no idea.

I have lived in Florida and am now in Washington. I have not once seen rain as hard as a typical Florida thunderstorm in Washington. Georgia is a lot more like Florida. You don't know what "raining hard" can look like if you haven't experienced it.

Sure, it's warmer, but it's much, much wetter than you have seen. The lighting is much more intense than you have seen. You can't go walking in the rain with just a coat and expect to only get a little damp, you step into the rain and get soaked.

If they get thunderstorms, it will definitely affect the vote to some degree.

And to answer this specifically...

Think back to grade school and there was always that one kid who no matter what, whenever they lost would shriek "BUT IT'S JUST NOT FAAAAAAAAIR!!!!!" then demand their marbles back or they'd tell on you?

1) Usual voting place not there: Disenfranchisement Level 1.
2) Not enough parking at CITY HALL: DL2.
3) Need to WALK THERE to vote: DL3.
4) Walk 15 min., wait in line for 60 min., VOTE, then 15 min. back. = Disenfranchisement Level FARK YOU.

It became deliberate: if not through malice, then incompetence.

Maybe it will inspire some Republicans to shorten the lines for 2024, and offer umbrellas, or "I Voted" towels...? Or maybe it will inspire voters to show up in swimsuits, flippers, snorkels, water wings, and inflatable an animal waist float thingy? (What are those called?)

And also Democrats are slightly more likely to vote early.  Here's the numbers from last month:
Warnock:
Election Day: 575873
Early: 1202113
Absentee: 166257

Walker:
Election Day: 794384
Early: 1038220
Absentee: 74845

So, Warnock got over 200k fewer votes on Election day, but nearly 200k more early votes, and over double the absentee.

I say this as someone who dearly hopes Warnock will win, but this rain isn't exactly going to cause the next great flood. NOAA is calling for an 80% of showers, and as someone who works outside and references their forecasts regularly, when they say showers it's just that - light rain. Plus, Dalton, GA is basically as far north as you can get in the state. Look at as somewhere further south like Macon, and the chance drops to 40%.

Besides, most places with outdoor lines are probably going to be in more densely populated democratic strongholds. I really do want Walker to lose, but this is a dumb, overoptimistic tweet.

Compare the massive early voting numbers to this:

Conspiracy theorist Toni Shuppe, who has ties to QAnon and who is rumored to be one of Mastriano's top picks for secretary of state if he becomes governor, says voting late in the day will deliberately "overwhelm the system" and will "stop the steal of 2022" by preventing a voting machine hacker from influencing vote totals, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The strategy, which is based on no evidence and is counterintuitive to the traditional campaign tactic of securing votes early, isn't isolated to Pennsylvania. Chuck Broerman, the Republican clerk in El Paso County, Colorado, said he's also heard it from the local Republican Party and other allied groups.

"They're saying, 'Wait until Election Day, go and vote in person, wait until 3 o'clock in the afternoon, overwhelm the system, expose the algorithm,'" he said.

Meh. Hard rain is a minor inconvenience.

I can deal with tepid, warm, or severely lukewarm showers. I spent some time in New Orleans, experienced the monsoon. The humid showers were a novelty, I almost laughed at them. Strength is meaningless. So I get wet. So what. Who cares.

Cold rain -- the kind just a point or two above freezing -- will chill you to the bone. It seeps through your clothes. It robs your body of its internal heat. You cannot feel your fingers. Youth football games are borderline child abuse.

Think of the coldest shower you've ever taken. The kind where you just crank the cold water faucet and nothing else. Then understand that PNW rain is even colder than that. The rain that didn't start as rain -- it was probably snow, or hail when it began in the clouds, then melted slightly when it fell, so it could hit you and penetrate your clothing and touch your skin and suck the heat out with much greater spread.

Thunder? Who cares about thunder when you will die of hyperthermia in less than 30 minutes? Calvin's mom was not farking around. PNW rain will farking kill you.
