Ehhh, another orange wave destroys the USA and will take 4 years before there's a chance to change that.

I thought about shouting 'BELGIUM!' at the top of my lungs but after further consideration I've decided to watch the ladies superprestige cyclocross race at Boom, then maybe some UCI track champions league.

Dutch mettle > American mettle

Dutch metal per capita > American metal per capita

Welp odds of the US men's team going all the way were very long so not to surprising we lost to the Dutch who by all accounts are a strong side  (team)

It's been the formula: Great group stage only to lose a lackluster game in the round of 16. The exception being 2002, where we had a lucky dos a cero before losing to germany.

as disappointed as I was/am, FIFA has NED ranked I think #7 in the world to US's I think #18.  So no particular shock.  it sucks but not a huge surprise.

and the "accidental goal" was still beautiful.  I bet if he tried to do that again 100 times, he'd be lucky to make one.

Okay except 1993.

Well, there was 1994, but at least the damn Canadians didn't win that year, either.

Not sure if joke or if you really think Belgium is part of The Netherlands

I thought our defense held shape well in the Group stage and we held possession well, and our attackers were much better than I've seen in the past. We were more confident, had better ball handling in close quarters, lack of fear or disorganization, and creating good opportunities.

But our defense fell apart with 3 first touch strikes in this game- all unmarked. And we're lacking strikers - many opportunities, nobody home. But I compare our talent level and it's better than I saw in 2010 and in 2014. They left me wanting more but we need that striker or 2.

I'm happy to report that the only footage of the world cup I have seen is the replay of the guy who bruised his nads.

Well...we have strikers. We just decided to leave them at home.

No, Belgium is the dirtiest, most offensive, word in the universe per the Hitchhiker's Guide.

As a fan of pro cycling in general and also, specifically cyclocross, I can recognize obscure corners in photographs and differentiate Flanders from Wallonia. I certainly recognize that neither is part of the Netherlands.

Also, I can not offer more glowing praise for the Belgian version of the TV show Professor T. Not the English version. Comparatively the English version sucks.

You know this team needs change but you won't admit it.

Finally, the rare instance in which the loser goes home to screw the prom queen.  The Dutch have to go home and continue being Dutch.

So.....they have to go to the Red Light District and pay extra for the escort to pretend to be the prom queen?

Matt Patricia might be available.

Can't coach defense, can't coach offense, maybe a change of sport is appropriate.

Maybe they do, but not because of yesterday.

Coaching didn't cause the defense to have 3 major mental lapses leaving unmarked players in the box. The first one could maybe be forgiven since it was in transition and there's no guarantee the Dutch player doesn't beat him to the ball even if they notice him, but the other two were entirely screw ups.

Still got farther in the tourney than Mexico, and hoo boy do I have some colleagues who are still pissed about that. Not to mention Germany, and so many countries that didn't even make it there--Italy, for one.

The USA may be mediocre in the World Cup. But dammit, they were in the cup, and they made it out of the group. After drawing with Wales, I didn't think that likely. Cheers, team. See you in four years, and here's looking forward to our women's team mopping the floor with (most of) the rest of the world in 2023.
