The U.S. is fast approaching a similar announcement. There are approximately only 167,000 left in the U.S..

The department said former Sgt. Horacio Castilleja Albarrán was 98 when he died Wednesday. A cause of death was not provided.

I think you just mentioned it. He was 98; there's your cause.

I mean, sure. This is how time works. There was a point where all Civil War veterans were dead, and then all WWI vets were dead, too. Although, people keep living longer and longer, so that span keeps increasing. So I guess that's kind of a good thing

Not many WW2 vets left. Remember the reason they served. We may need similar warriors here on the home front to combat the current fascist movement here.

That can't be right.  According to my historical research (American movies and TV), the US singlehandedly fought and won the war. We captured the Enigma machine, we captured Berlin, We kicked as in Africa, why would any other country besides the US and the axis powers (and maybe the occasional special forces Brit) have WW2 vets?

And look at the United States 🇺🇸 now. We elected a POS that claims nations are sending us their worse like their president is Fidel Castro; and we're giving people free passes. Hay Trump we don't do that no more.
Hopefully God has more respect for Mexicans than nearly half this shiat hole has.

México was openly courted by Germany to be a spoiler against the US.  Germany promised the return of territory stolen by the US.

I "think*" it was Jay Leno who once said, "They were 100 years old and the obituary said the cause of death was unknown.  At that age i want to know what was keeping them alive!"

But gracias senor!

/*That may be a false attribution... I "think" a lot of things.

I had a weird feeling reading this headline.
I don't know if this is a real memory I have or something my mind is making up, but I recall reading something about the mistakes of history being repeated when they are no longer in living memory.

Yeah.  History says Germany courted Mexico in exchange for a promise to restore territory. See the Zimmerman telegraph.  Germany then sunk their ships.

Now we are all happy G20 members.

The Zimmerman Telegram was WWI.  The Nazis must have used Obama's time machine.

So there were some Nazi collaborators in Mexico during WWII?  Quelle surprise!!!  Any country that had Nazi collaborators is automatically fascist, their constitution invalid, and a dictator should be installed for LIFE!!!

Yeah, that is how time works. But it is still a sad day when all the veterans of a particular war are no more.

Jacobite_55: Charles Lindbergh - Head of the America First Committee

Lindberg also flew combat missions in the Pacific. He was a civilian "consultant" instructor for F4U Corsair and P-38 Lightning pilots on long range flying techniques. He was credited with shooting down 1 Japanese fighter but eye witness accounts claimed he shot down more. He didn't take credit as technically he wasn't suppose to be in combat.

I had forgotten about the combat mission.  But, if I remember correctly, he actually attempted to enlist in the Army Air Corps after Pear Harbor.  If I remember the story correctly, Roosevelt personally blocked his commission.

Thank you for reminding me.
