Jesus'farking Christ that story. Thankfully the doctors managed to save one of his eyes but imagine the last thing you ever see is the teeth of your father as he bites out your eyeballs.

You'd be surprised. Many (especially the spring piston single pump type) can shoot a pellet 800-1000 feet per second, more than enough to penetrate most parts of the body.

You still have to hit them in a lethal spot, but like regular firearms you don't point/shoot them at anything you aren't willing to potentially kill/destroy.

Dang.  Who needs to pay $320 for a .22 pistol + $1k for a suppressor when all you need is a Crossman pump gun for $89 Black Friday sale, otherwise $99.98.

Pellet (not a BB) to a neck artery or vein?

Pellet through the eye, or into the skull?. 177 caliber means there might not be noticeable bleeding, or the ER staff assumed any  bleeding was from striking the head on the ground.
