Pellet (not a BB) to a neck artery or vein?

Pellet through the eye, or into the skull?. 177 caliber means there might not be noticeable bleeding, or the ER staff assumed any  bleeding was from striking the head on the ground.

The size of the projectile has nothing to do with the possibility of it being fatal, in this case. A pellet gun doesn't produce the force needed to kill someone

You'd be surprised. Many (especially the spring piston single pump type) can shoot a pellet 800-1000 feet per second, more than enough to penetrate most parts of the body.

You still have to hit them in a lethal spot, but like regular firearms you don't point/shoot them at anything you aren't willing to potentially kill/destroy.
