The name of the home builder should have been a warning.

Dodo David: The name of the home builder should have been a warning.

Edgehomes sounds like a company that constructs homes on the edges of land, so I figured they'd be good at this.

Because if it's just about gold bike chain, I got some spray paint in that color too...and chains. Sure it'll need sanding and clear coat...but it'd work. 3.50 tops.

/Hummm...I might bling out the bondage bag for happy camp weekend.

FTFA: On Wednesday, cracks were visible in the front exterior of the Kamradt house - in the Hidden Canyon Estates subdivision.

Oh, I think they can see the canyon perfectly well now.

Building on the edge of a canyon is easy to overlook.

Eric Kamradt says his wife picked out their new home without even telling him.

I sat next to an evangelical/Homeschooled engineer at my first job. When he found out I was getting married he told me he would never get married. See, when you are married you take turns making decisions you pick steak for dinner and she gets to pick the house you live in.

It does depend on the local underground situation. Back in the 80s, U of Missouri Rolla built a dorm tower over what turned out to be a sink hole. At the time they were the school of mines.

On the north suburbs of St Louis near the Missouri River there are also sink holes. I saw one house that was probably about a 3000 or 4000 square foot all brick house that dropped 5 feet a few weeks before closing. Another neighborhood off of Old Halls Ferry had a couple regular tract houses fall in one too.

And anodizing is a common surface treatment to metal objects to resist oxidation.  It's incredibly durable as it's a reaction of the surface of the base metal itself if memory serves.

That's what I was thinking.  Most of us are not geologists or structural engineers.  We are forced to trust the work of others, whether they work for the other party in a transaction or are hired by us to supposedly represent our interests.

I expect that there'll be a lawsuit, and the court will have to rule on whether the lot is safe to build on or not.  If not, the builder will have to compensate their customer, possibly even accounting for market prices.  If the lot is safe to build on, then they'll have to either make-good or pay for someone else to make-good, or could offer to buy-back the lot.

But this is a guess admittedly as I am not a lawyer.

As annoying as that is, the one that's really getting on my nerves lately is the improper use of the word rare.  The most egregious example is used in memes, for videos or photos.  "Rare photograph of ..." sort of thing.

If it's become widespread, it's not rare anymore.

A new house, but they should still have gotten an inspection.
Friends bought a brand new house, and were so proud of their new living and its beautiful fixtures.  Then they discovered they had no way to turn the lights on; the builder forgot to put any switches in for it.

Maybe that's what that extra switch by my front door controls!  Tell your friends I'm sorry for that impromptu light switch rave last week...
