If I recall previous uses of this tactic, Barry Manilow tunes are famously effective. These days you could probably get Barry to turn up and play live for a couple of hundred bucks.

If vagrants are posing problems for customers and a business, they have to go. I wouldn't want anyone making my patients feel unsafe to come to my office. I don't want to end up homeless myself

And if my grandmother had balls, she'd be my grandfather. That's not the point. The local government should be managing the homeless population, not a private business.
This is a problem that society created. It's not up to one business to solve it.

Yet those very same big businesses create these issues and lobby to not be responsible for anything, whether taxes to pay for services or liability when their shady practices fark people over into destitution.

Curious how they want to benefit from society but not engage with it.

Curious.

Maybe we should invest more in the homeless population then the big banks and businesses that get bailed out all the time. I mean getting homeless people cleaned up, housed, and employed gets more bang for the buck then some business hording cash overseas to avoid tax payments.

At this point it has GOT to be cheaper to just build housing. Seriously the negative effects and costs of refusing to house the poor are getting absurd.

That said, I expect less than nothing out of this country. We are in the grip of a slow descent with periodic crises, and despite the things that need to be done being obvious there is no will in the powerful to do those things.

Smoking GNU: Link is 403ed, can someone give a quick summary please?

SEATTLE, Wash. - A North Seattle business fed up with a growing homeless encampment, has been blasting music to get the people who are living there to leave.
The encampment is stationed on a side street at N 128th St. and Stone Ave. North.
Nearby business owners said the Comcast Service Center has been playing loud music from a surveillance system with a speaker for about a month now. The loud music is described as classical or elevator music.
"Classical, all classical, all day long," said a body shop manager named Tyler. "They came and asked us, 'we're thinking about playing some loud music, see if we can get them to move away.'"

Nearby business owners told KOMO News they don't mind the loud music because they too are frustrated about the theft, drug trafficking, and garbage piling up, which they believe are a result of the encampment.
"They turned up the music, but as you can see it didn't make a difference," said business owner John Yang. "It's unsafe for our employees to park their cars near Comcast, it's also a deterrent for people to visit our businesses and it's a safety issue with a nearby high school."
Yang said their dealership got security after crime started creeping in.
"If we didn't have that overnight security, we would lose cars, parts of cars," said Yang.
KOMO News reached out to the City of Seattle's homeless response team, asking what the plan is to get the folks into a shelter.
Officials said the Unified Care Team has been working with Comcast, businesses, and neighbors for weeks and the site is on the list for a resolution.
City officials also said they did receive one formal noise complaint about the loud music from a member and when the UCT community relations staff reached out to Comcast, the issue was resolved.
There is a tiny home village right next to the camp, but it's not yet open. Business owners hope the campers will accept the resolution.

I honestly must ask the question. If you gave all these people a free home and health care they ALL would use it?

In my experience maybe 40% would. We know that the old way (pre Ray gun) did not work either. Many will not enter society in any roles.

Homelessness is a multilayered problem. America has plenty of homes. Affordable ones, even. The people that are causing these problems are the worst of the worst. Recidivistic barbarians who would break your car window to steal six pennies. They don't want help. There is no hope for them, no rehabilitation until they get off drugs and on medications.

The quiet homeless are the ones who life kicked squarely in the junk. Through no fault of their own, one bad turn led to life on the streets. These people want off the streets. They know they can't hold down a job that pays enough, due to convictions or whatnot.

Send the first population to prison/rehab with lots of therapy. Send the second population to a rural community and give them supplies to build their own homes.

I hate the term "decent people."

They're homeless, have some farking compassion. Is being harassed for money by people with literally nothing so bothersome?

I don't believe the crime excuse. Just because they are homeless doesn't automatically mean they are thieves or drug addicts.

I think it's probably unsightly, and there's an ick factor for having to look at homeless people. But if you actually say you are doing this because homeless people are depressing and gross, you look like an asshole.  My bet is they are using a vague allegation about crime as a handwave justification to try and use any method to drive the homeless away, because most people will automatically accept and believe the excuse.

Teach them how to play an instrument.  Have them play the loud music.  They get on America's got talent.  We all cry and vote them through.  They get rich and get houses.

This scenario is as likely to happen as them getting a hand up in this country.

That's why I said "if".  i have trouble believing anything coming out of Comcast. They've screwed me over enough.
But, "if" there is crime associated with a homeless encampment, the encampment has to go.
If Comcast is lying, Comcast should for harassing and displacing people just trying to live.

As a former DJ at a non-lethal weapon systems manufacturer, I can say from experience that putting this sonic technology - as rudimentary as it's being used in this case - in the hands of amateurs can be very dangerous. If they somehow inadvertently go to DEFCON BUFFETT, a lot of people could get seriously hurt - skin rashes, burst ear drums, brain hemorrhaging, and even, in the case of Cheeseburger in Paradise, mass suicides.

Don't forget the infamous 1968 study done by Stanford University on the effects of repeatedly playing Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?" On unsuspecting late-night diner patrons. The diner's jukebox was programmed to play the song continuously. After 7 plays, the patrons rioted and burnt the diner to the ground.
