Voice actors usually record their dialog before the animation side of the house moves from storyboards to producing animated content. Seems like someone snorted up the entire production budget before the animators got to work on this POS.

Okay I saw on IMDB trivia that there's a part with his grandmother and they apparently had a corrupted audio file and literally no one caught it before it aired.

She starts speaking in tongues at 22:15 (had to skip ahead 10 seconds until I found her, couldn't take actually watching it).

It's f*cking hilarious!

I was wondering what Nancy Cartwright was doing here, since she should be rolling in Bart Simpson money in 2002. Then I saw she was one of the producers...

Rumor was that some voice actors where involved with Nancy Cartwright's scientology connections. Hell, they had  the voice actors of Belle and Ariel from Disney involved.

I still remember first hearing about the Star Wars Holiday Special and how awful it was.

TBH, I had my doubts because I was born in '78 and am a huge fan of the original trilogy.

And HOLY shiat I WAS WRONG.

The only moment I could somewhat appreciate was Bea Arthur playing a bartender....at the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Not the Boba Fett animation? That's the only part I could appreciate and, thankfully, you can find that segment by itself on YouTube. I tried watching the whole special a few years back but dropped out around the 45 minute mark. It's just boring.

I mean the Diahann Carole part was...stimulating.

Bea Arthur was fun.  Art Carney worked with what he was given and Harvey Korman was a delight.

So what I am saying is I actually do enjoy the Star Wars holiday special.  However, it isn't for everyone.

At a certain point, film and HD original files are what makes something rare. Watching some bleached out film from 1965 that is at 380 p, or some hyper compressed 380 p, that have more blocks and artifacts than an ancient Lego playset might as well not exist.

Original sound and studio quality make a good film. It's a quest for the Original, not just bare minimum of existence.

I'll admit some parts aren't totally awful. The problem is the wookies. They take up too much of the special and, without dialogue, we're left watching extended scenes of people in hairy costumes miming dull activities.

Really, the special should have been 45 minutes, at most (an hour with commercials.) Trim down the wookie sitcom stuff and we'd have a reasonable special, albeit still a dumb idea. Instead, it's twice that and it lags so much!

That's my theory.  This started as an actual production, but something happened (cough*cocaine*cough) and they ran out of money.  Rather than can it and get sued by the investors, somebody paid their nephew $20 and a pizza to animate it in Poser over the weekend.

That 1985 animation was actually better.

That settles that: I am SO TOTALLY playing this all day next Friday on the 72" Department Stats Monitor at work. Thank you for this vile POS, I can't wait to witness the horror!!

I've seen some seriously dreadful attempts at holiday specials and this was easily the worst in 90 seconds of scanning. Hell, the animated "Alf" holiday special with "The Goomer" was better than this!!

I get high and watch the Star Wars Holiday Special every Christmas Eve. I'm not sure I could tell you why, other than inertia. That part at the beginning that goes 19 minutes without any English dialogue is a killer.
