How come when junior sneaks a beer he gets "drunk" but if he eats some edibles it's an "overdose?"

were these like super rich kids? cuz gummies in LA are farking expensive and come in very limited quantities. maybe the square ass olds could eat a couple gummies and chill out and maybe provide an enriching activity or two for the probably-not-as-high-as-you-think kids instead of traumatizing them?

Depends if these kids deliberately sneaked it, or if some asshole classmate thought it would be funny to give their friends some and not tell them.

Overdose is the wrong word, but there isn't a "right dose" when you don't know you're getting it.

Well.....

I have done edibles where my coordination was severely hampered.

And yes, realize that nobody can die from too much THC, but it is NEVER  COOL to give someone a dose of something where they are unaware.

Put them in a basement, Throw  some Sabbath or Floyd records on the stereo  and they'll be fine.

For movies I recommend Animal House or Deadpool.

Good point, Subby. The teacher should have just said, "Play on!" and kept going with the lesson. No need to be concerned about what they may have consumed. Just assume it was perfectly safe edibles, put on some Allman Brothers, and diagram sentences. Whatever they took must be benign and the proper dosage. That's a safe assumption for both the children's health and the school's liability.

These were confiscated aty daughter's middle school and a student was also hospitalized. My daughter was totally freaked out that the student was hospitalized and I was like "it's only because the school has to do that. A child can't die from marijuana. But it still will make you stupid so don't do it". The girl who brought them (who my daughter has hated since 3rd grade) was suspended. They are 6th graders.

I'm pretty sure no 6th grader is named Becky anymore lol. But they do still love Taylor Swift.

flappy_penguin: maybe the square ass olds could eat a couple gummies and chill out and maybe provide an enriching activity or two for the probably-not-as-high-as-you-think kids instead of traumatizing them?

1.  No, because it's against the law for teachers (and persons acting in loco parentis generally) to work while they're under the influence.  2.  No, because the kids were probably already traumatized by their having unexpectedly lost their motor coordination and their ability to think straight, and it was therefore the duty of the school staff to get them medical care ASAP.

nitroglycerine: Put them in a basement, Throw  some Sabbath or Floyd records on the stereo  and they'll be fine.

See above.  It would be a breach of the school staff's duty to do so.

Worst. Generation.Ever.  Just like every other generation.

Seriously though kids.   Don't wreck this for the rest of us.  if you can't be high at school and still pass your Shakespeare and trig exams and not get noticed by the staff then just wait until school is out.

I can't believe this has to be said:

Kids shouldn't be ingesting *any* drugs that are not professionally constructed and verified for purity and potency. Whether recreational or not. The possibility of adulteration, drug interaction or other side effects is very real and dangerous.

This is just Farking common sense.

There hasn't been enough peer-reviewed research on various components of edibles on juvenile bodies. Public areas with kids around are terrible places to consume anything like this. There are dangerous behavioral situations that arise in schools (especially with the ongoing mental health crisis of kids post pandemic) and pulling this crap makes everyone's job of keeping kids safe and learning that much harder.

The school had to take this seriously, but the worst thing to happen to the kids is that the experience will keep them from ever trying cannabis again.

Do you really have difficulty getting your head around the concept that school personnel has an obligation to see that their charges don't get poisoned or otherwise injured during school hours, or are you just pulling my leg?

I'm trying to wrap my head around how you have the time to troll every pot thread on Fark every day seven days a week starting at 4am unless you're unemployed or disabled.

So, of course, the article says nobody knows what the kids really ate.

It has not been confirmed what, if anything, the students may have consumed. In a press conference, the LAFD said it may have "possibly" been "cannabis edibles," and said that fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, was not involved.
