Looks like we're going to Halfworld, where Rocket is originally from in the comics. So, prepare for Planet of the Furries...

Also a possibility of Hulk showing up, since Halfworld and Rocket first appeared in the Hulk comics.

Yeah, that seemed a lot more about "hey, it's those guys you like" than "here's what happens in our movie." I had to look at Wikipedia to find out who the antagonist is.

I'm fine with that. I hate trailers that spoil the entire plot.

\and let's face it, the appeal of the Guardians movies is the interactions between the characters, not the story.

Looks like Pratt is gaining the Andy weight again (or it's the costume). Hope they don't kill off Rocket, though the only one I wouldn't care about getting bumped off is Drax and maybe Star Lord, now that Pratt's charisma has waned. All the rest are keepers, even if they just go into storage for a while.

Spacehog, huh?

Looks like they've skipped the 80s and are now raiding the 90s Much Music Big Shiny Tunes catalog for their needle drops.

Trailers aren't supposed to show the best parts of a movie, they're supposed to make you want to pay to see the damn things.

Too many trailer makers in Hollywood don't seem to understand that. And that's how you get shiatty things like good scenes spoiled or worse, not even in the movie.

be better if the trailers weren't actually any part of the movie but something like a prologue or a short little story in the movie's universe

I saw that video was posted earlier and I thought it yet another fan-made trailer, with a mashup of clips from others movies.  So glad I was wrong!

Its really weird. In thor he looked almost comic-perfect. Star lord isn't captain america or anything and is slim. For as much as i didnt like that film, it was the best version of star lord they've done.

Gamorra looks really good.  There was one shot of a bronzed skinned man, perhaps that was Adam Warlock?  Their new ship looks rather less aerodynamic than previous ones.

And yeah, Rocket embracing an otter, that's cute.

Lylla. She's Rocket's significant other otter.

Glad to see the Halfworlders, but Bill Mantlo is gonna get zilch this time around, sadly.

Looks pretty good, got a sad, goodbye vibe to it.  If they keep the wacky hi-jinks toned down a bit that would be great *side-eyes last Thor cartoon*.

The holiday special was OK.

I predict they will set the team up for a 'reset'.

Strange to think that all the devastation and the deaths of main characters in this movie will all be... because Rocket had to steal those stupid harbulary batteries.

Agreed. Especially egregious when the movie relies on a twist halfway through but the trailer blows it straight out of the gate, meaning you just have to mark time watching nonsense until you get to that point .

This is Gunn's last Marvel movie. After this, he's in charge of the DC film universe over at Warner Bros. and we'll see what happens then. I like his stuff, but he is a bit of a one-note creator and I don't know how his control will translate for an entire universe. Having sway over the GOTG within the MCU was good, but I can't imagine what the DCFU (because the DCEU is dead) will look like from now on.

Black Adam was better than it had a right to be, but it was still very by-the-numbers, and seriously hindered by The Rock's clause that says any character he plays can't lose. Kinda kills any suspense when he's in a movie. However, I did like the portrayal of Hawkman and Doctor Fate, and the end bit gave us a glimpse of Cavill finally playing Superman, instead of playing that Ayn Randian asshole Kyptonian character he was playing from Man of Steel up through Justice League.I'm encouraged by the bright colors and John Williams music. Let's see if Gunn can make Warner Bros release a Superman movie that isn't a grim, dour, pessimistic pile of puke, overly burdened by corporate input, like everything Snyder did.

As for GOTG Vol. 3... I'm looking forward to it. It'll advance the MCU no matter what happens (my belief: Most of the team will perish, leaving a few survivors to reboot the GOTG with new members). We'll have Adam Warlock and a few other good characters introduced to the MCU when it's over, and the cosmic side will have some solid stakes and open doors for the big bad of Phase 5 (obviously Kang the Conqueror).

And if you're not into it and simply hate the MCU and superhero movies in general: 1-- Why are you in here? and 2-- Go watch one of the other few hundred non-superhero movies released in 2022. I'm sure there's something about a cop and a bear and a meet-cute and surviving against all odds out there, somewhere.

2022-12-02 10:55:20 AM
Makes sense to build it around Rocket, though between the tone and hearing that the Cooper isn't returning to voice him after this makes me think that he's going to a farm off in the country.

It's a dumb distinction, but this is also a teaser trailer. Not meant to inform you of the plot or anything, just to start the hype train.

2022-12-02 10:57:23 AM
However, I did like the portrayal of Hawkman

I'm not current, is he that powered up in the comics now? And what's with all the Batman type lairs and gizmos?

Yeah, this is a very nice departure from "Hey here's a bunch of stuff that would have been cool to find out happens in the movie, but in the trailer". Ie, Hulk in Ragnarok or Professor X in MoM

IIRC Quill got a Zune at the end of the last one to replace the destroyed cassette tapes? Which would mean anything through the 00s or even 2010s depending on when that Zune wound up in space.

That used to be a thing. The trailer for Hitchcock's "Rope," for example, is a scene leading into the events of the movie. It sets up what happens, but doesn't appear in the film itself.

With these big franchise movies, half the time you don't need more than a logo and a theme song, anyway. Fans are going to see it regardless.

The Thor: Ragnarok "friend from work" trailer was pretty egregious. They could have let people know that Hulk was present (which, let's face it, they HAD to do to get people to go see a Thor movie at that point) without spoiling the fact that he's the battle opponent. Then they spend many pointless minutes setting us up for a punchline that KNOW has already been ruined.

Marvel redeemed themselves with the Endgame trailer though.

Drax is annoying but at least he can really fight. Mantis, on the other hand, can literally put people to sleep, mess with your emotions or manipulate your mind. She uses knives but where the hell would she learn how to fight? She grew up on a planet (well, technically she grew up on a Celestial's skull) and had no adversaries. You think Ego was going to create a dōjōfor her so she could learn martial arts?

My guess is that Drax is the one to die. The actor has said he's getting too old to keep in the kind of shape he has to be in to play the role, and also won't work for anyone else but James Gunn.

Guessing Rocket will get a happy ending among his people, if only because he's been a pretty tragic character in the other movies.

Rocket is the absolute soul of Gunn's mcu stories.

The final shot of volume two is a close up on rockets eye.

Rocket gets left behind when all his friends snap.

Lyla!!!!!!

It's rockets story, and the others are just part of it.
