That makes me feel better.   I was told that there's a flashback from the Last Crusade, and they digitalized Harrison to make him look younger for that scene.  I will admit I am curious....Last Crusade is my ALL-TIME favorite movie.

I'm not really looking forward to this, but I will see it.

I hope they don't try to make Indy an 80 year old superhero.  I think he would work fine as a mentor/spy/scholar with the occasional nazi punch.

Trailer looked ok.

I didn't think "Crystal Skull" was so bad.

As time passes, it's been apparent that the animosity against Lucas about the "Star Wars" Prequel Trilogy and "Crystal Skull" was, at best, overblown, and, at worst, downright psychotic.

HERETIC!

2022-12-01 6:11:34 PM
Ford looks too old now for anything other than a brisk short walk.  There's just no way to make him credible anymore in even the least demanding action scene without de-aging and then deepfaking another actor to look like the de-aged Ford.

Same as when Connery did Entrapment... you just kind of feel sorry for him.

2022-12-01 6:11:55 PM
The CGI looks terrible. That much CGI can work for something like a superhero movie, but an adventure movie really needs as much practical effects as possible to sell the...well... adventure.

Bith, I usually agree with you 100% of the time, but Crystal Skull is an atrociously bad movie.  If it weren't for Ready Player One, it would be Spielberg's worst film.

Now, now.....

I will agree that upon rewatch, Crystal Skull has some moments.

(although, under what circumstances he would be cleared by the government after the adventure, since there is no proof that he actually did anything is sort of hanging out there....)

But no, the prequels are still awful.
Watching the Clone Wars during lockdown somewhat improved the prequels, but all it did really was shine the turds in the bowl

Also, Millennium Falcon? Does part of it take place at Disney?

I'm jist so confused. Wasn't he supposed to be a child rapist in his 40s in the original?

"I don't believe in magic..."

He must've had one hell of a therapist after Raiders.

I'll watch it, but I ain't paying to do so.  Reasons: Crystal Skull and digital photography that is obviously digital (and that's excluding the CG tells).  There was a visual look along with everything else.  Same goes for Star Wars.  Include all of the wipes and other cues as much as you want, but it's lacking that feel.

You're forgetting Schindler's List.  Accidentally having that little girl's coat appear in color should have been caught during editing.  Talk about amateur hour.

Trailer looks fantastic though. This made me think of the damn Millenium Falcon about to hit hyperspace:

Calling attention to objectively terrible productions is not animosity. Mr Lucas just doesn't like being told his work was subpar, so much so that he threw a tantrum and sold his supposedly beloved work to a bunch of folks he later called "white slavers." (I'm guessing it's *his* definition of slavery were the slaves have spiffy Tatooine multilevel condos and get to hang out with their mom after their "slave" shift).

*Lucas doesn't know shiat about the concepts he tries present, is what I'm saying.

Some of the trailer looks really good. That first shot of de-aged Indy looks very convincing.

The parade shots, much less so. Very CGI. Indy on horseback looks...ugh.

Nonetheless, I'll be there in the theater watching it. I'm holding out hope it will be fun, and they got it right. Good, bad, or ugly, it will be a last hurrah.

This.

Plenty of times where it was horrible CGI.  Granted it is the first trailer and they may be able to clean it up before the movie is released but.... :\

Other than that, it looks interesting.

Do you believe for one second that if it makes any serious money they won't drag Ford back for another go?
The only way that doesn't happen is if they kill him off in this one.

Nope.  Both are unwatchable.  But Spielberg directed Crystal Skull so he gets some of the blame.  Also, it's not really that uncommon for creative folks to get fat and comfortable.  Better art seems to come from hunger and passion, not rich middle-aged guys in the twilight of their careers.

it wasnt the premise of Crystal Skull that was so bad (a take on '50s alien movies), but the execution was so bad that the whole production staff should have been sacked.

Yeah, that was nostalgia pandering at its worst.  Ford and the Star Wars light speed effect aside, the cockpit views in the Star Wars films were diliberately derived from WWII footage.  Might as well have been wearing lead gloves when developing the scene.

HERETIC!

Lucas took a sci-fantasy premise based on good and evil, and woo-woo magic, and then tried to equivocate the whole thing.

there's a possibly true story that it was only after ILM had committed lots of work to Ep 1, that Lucas decided to write a script.

...and dear god, the dialog was CW teen melodrama bad.
