That looks... dumb.  I'll still watch it, but it looks dumb.

And they were so proud of that poorly-done shot of the kid exiting the moving transforming Transformer that they showed it twice.

The only thing that got my attention was seeing Gen 1 Arcee in the trailer.

True dat.  The only question is whether there will be an attempt at or allusion to a Prime/Arcee sex scene.  Or a love triangle involving Primal.  (For the record, I want none of that, but it's what I expect given the content of the previous movies)

After bumblebee turned out good I am cautiously optimistic

I see they learned from the success of Bumblebee and made a restrained sequel that focuses on characters instead of mindless CGI action.

Just kidding, this looks like more of the same Bayhem garbage like the other Transformer movies.

The shiatty hip-hop was the icing on the cake.

As I told my friend who does a podcast on this sort of stuff, they should've done a Beast Wars film beforehand.

Also, why is Mirage a Porsche?  It's bad enough that they killed off Jazz in the first film and had him voiced by Eddie Winslow from Family Matters.  I might be a little pissy because Jazz is the first Transformer I ever got, and I still think the 80s-era 911 looks better than what they're putting out in its place now.

The transformations have gotten much better that the first two transformers movies.
Hope the plot has too.

They went through a warp and ended up millions of years back in Earth's past.  Optimus Primal saw Optimus Prime as someone to live up to, having actually come after Prime's time.

As to taking on animal forms, there was some sort of radiation that their robot forms couldn't handle for very long, so their transformed modes were organic, which negated it.  I know, it sounds stupid.

I feel you there. Hound was my first, and I was seriously let down by the film appearance. Jazz was one of my favorites, though, and him getting killed in the first film really pissed me off. Turning Mirage from an F1 into a Porsche was just bait & switch with my emotions...

Wasn't there also some plot point that the animal forms took less energy and Beast Wars-era Transformers were going through an energy crisis?

Themselves.

Transformers have an innate desire to hide as the shiat around them.

Being successful at it depends if you want to be a truck that is so iconic everyone knows who you are or uhh a gun like Megatron.

But they also desperately want to be caught, so they make it as easy as possible for both the organics and their opposing faction to detect them. Barricade, unusually for Cybertronians, didn't increase his chances of detection by being a flourescent orange, driverless muscle cop car, with faction symbols, and "to punish and enslave" on the side.

They're not hiding from humans. They're hiding from each other.

Think of a preying mantis. We have a breeding population because neighbor thought it would be helpful to her garden. I interact with them more than boring people do.

They're (pants-wetting) obvious to us, but to each other and what they eat they're invisible.

Still, a 9" bug who doesn't believe in being intimidated is a problem when you're mowing the lawn. Not for you, unless you get sad like me.

All praise to Marv Wolfman.  Beast Machines - with its time-traveling alien robot gorilla that meditates on the meaning of existence and identity as the protagonist - will forever reign as the down-right weirdest shiat ever put out to sell action figures.

All the bots downsized. They became more human sized. Instead of 30-40+ ft tall bots they became more 4-8ft tall bots. Some a bit larger.

Basic story was BW Megatron and some outlaw Predacons stole some ancient artifacts (golden disks) and fled. The Maximals were the closest ship and pursued. Both went through a worm hole and landed on an alien planet that turns out was prehistoric earth. It is covered in raw energon that too much exposure causes damage so they have to scan local wildlife to disguise and use as shielding.

I don't buy that raw energon recon. Megatron used to hammer energon. Is the purple stuff cooked or refined?
