Interesting.  Today, Neanderthals usually just go to Texas Roadhouse.

"It made a sort of pancake-cum-flatbread which was really very palatable-a sort of nutty taste."

I bet.

To be fair, Neanderthals didn't know what soap tasted like.

The comments on this thread is the reason that some of us hope that the next major e.coli outbreak is due to cilantro

Yay!  It's another 'cilantro tastes objectively like soap and anyone who likes it is a f**king sicko freak" thread!  Been a minute since we had one of those!

2022-12-01 2:32:32 PM
nope, it is not one of those threads.
soap has a useful purpose.

I'm sure there was some cave hipster back then, who got kicked in the dick and tossed out to the wolves.

I'm a bit surprised that the focus here is on cilantro. It's either tasty or soapy, depending on your genes. Nothing terribly divisive about that. And, unlike truffle oil, it does not insist upon itself.

Yeah, parsley is great in a bunch of stuff. Hell, it makes boxed mac and cheese better.

What's odd is that the estimates I've seen are that the soap taste only applies to about 10% of the population, yet it seems to be the majority of Farkers in these threads.

I question if half the "soap" crowd have even seen it, let alone tasted it.

Even in the realm of politics, I have never known of a group of people so absolutely and utterly convinced that "WE ARE RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG" than the cilantro = soap crowd.

But seriously if you have the soap gene it's not your fault you're a mutant minority who will never know perfect tacos. I weep for you all 😥

I must be double defective. It doesn't taste like soap to me but I still don't like it. Maybe I just haven't eaten the right kind of soap?

Not being a defective mutation, i can't say firsthand, but I've also heard the flavor described as "perfume like" in a bad way. Perhaps that is your experience?

As a kid I hated cilantro, now i love it. So maybe it can be an acquired taste as well?

More for me, then.

It affects a small portion of the population thanks to a group of olfactory-receptor genes sensitive to aldehydes. It doesn't taste like soap to the majority of the population. Meh.

Weirdly, both we and they are right, which is honestly the point. Cilantro's like eating ass - lovely if you're the folks predisposed to enjoying a bit of analingus, but tastes like shiat to the few not keen on the idea. Doesn't somehow invalidate cilantro, nor does it invalidate the folks unable to enjoy it.
