"This is not an isolated story"

Apparently paving over graves is an American tradition.

Working on a freeway project in Phoenix, and here are the avoidance areas outlined in blue. Sorry, but some of that is getting paved over, no matter how hard I try to avoid it. The big blob area with the Amazon warehouse on top of it supposedly is a graveyard. Freeway alignment goes to west of that blob (can kinda see the diagonal line it will be on already and that we have to cross that thing part of area, which is supposed to be historical canal). This whole area is just a best guess too.

A better question is why are the living going out of their way to preserve the rotting remains of the dead.

/there should be no cemeteries

The entire planet is an ancient burial site.

LSB:  so when my kids were toddlers, my wife would take us to this local park (in Phoenix, that is) that had a little railroad. the kids loved it. I couldn't explain it, but, I always got this weird, "this doesn't feel right" feeling when I was there.  I hated going.  I just felt like ....wrong.

so my wife tells my dad, who is 4/4ths of the local Native American tribe and he goes, "well.......he's kinda right.  that area was a burial ground for our tribe.  it was far enough from the river and high enough that when the river flooded, it wouldn't be disturbed."

my wife was like, "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo shiat?"

"no shiat."  weird.

Just move the headstones. You can leave the bodies where they are.

It might actually be the best way to preserve the artifacts.
Keeping them in dirt, is safer than digging them up and ebay auction.

Or anywhere in Europe for that matter, heck they found the remains of a King under a parking lot in The U.K.

Make up your mind subby. Do you want to house the farking homeless or not? It's low income housing they were putting in, not luxury condos. But go ahead and wad up those panties if it makes you feel better, I guess...

Crews are finishing construction on the city's latest affordable housing project: Harmony at the Park. It's a mixed-income housing complete with 310 units. The development near I-10 and Van Buren is set to open in January.

Want to guess what the real problem is?

Building a housing development atop an indian burial ground is only a cost savings until the lawsuits start rolling because the walls in the houses won't stop bleeding.

It's an affordable housing project.  I guess only the rich deserve new housing.

Has anyone considered that perhaps they had good reason to abandon that spot in the first place?

Yeah...but if they want to build a Casino. It's "Fark you Grandma, the Black Jack Table is going in"

The entire PHX metro will be abandoned in - at most - 25 years.

That's exactly what they did north of Blythe California.
Took a dozer and cut an unnecessary road directly across a native racecourse, destroying ancient intaglios.
