So I checked out Tidal's new free service.  It's a straight up copy of Spotify from 3 or 4 years ago before the interface became choked with podcasts and merch.  It looks the same, and it acts the same.  You can add albums, favorite songs, and create playlists.   Listen to the stupid ads, or go ad free for a price.  Beautiful.

Literally the only thing Spotify had going for it was the interface.  Otherwise they're a terrible company, with terrible business practices and, BTW, fark Joe Rogan.

Thousandths of a penny is how much artists have ALWAYS been paid per song per listener. It's just that they actually see it broken down in detail now.

I know where Spotify could have saved itself $200M. 🤔

To be fair, music today is only worth a thousandth of a penny anyway

TDWCom29: Seems like Musk has emboldened other dumb rich guys

I wonder if this statement was made before or after Musk said his claims about Apple were bullshiat?

Karma Chameleon: Tidal also has better audio

this thread is going to devolve into vinyl vs CD territories, isn't it?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Can we just start slapping people that clearly don't know what freedom of speech is.  There are a bunch of legitimate gripes to have with Apple, that's not one of them.

I'm border line "you should be able to yell "fire!" in a crowded theater", because the person next to you can yell "He's full of shiat!" and really that issue should be dealt with through fire code and maximum occupancies.  I mean what if there actually is a fire, it's worse to get trampled in a building that's on fire.

In any case, freedom of speech absolutely doesn't mean that you have a right to say whatever you want to say without repercussion and it absolutely does not mean that media platforms can't determine what is and isn't available to their viewers.

I've never heard of Tidal.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm still using Pandora and have never seen a reason to leave. I love hearing random stuff I wouldn't be exposed to otherwise.

I dropped Spotify for Pandora, but thanks for the Tidal tip.

Be a real shame if the free market at Apple just decided to drop these whiny apps and replacements took over like Mastadon and Tidal

/Then what whiny biatches?

You will never find a thinner-skinned, more easily triggered little biatch of a man than a CEO.

Maybe, just maybe, Twitter and Spotify and Fortnight and everyone else that hate's Apple's App Store should boycott them just to see what happens.

/I've got a lot of popcorn that isn't going to eat itself.
