A friend of Iranian midfielder Saeid Ezatolahi was shot and killed by his country's security forces Tuesday after the team's loss to the United States at the World Cup......Mehran Samak, 27, was reportedly shot after honking his car horn in the port city of Bandar Anzali, located in Iran's northwestern Gilan province.

Would have been an early era car theft alarm.  When those first came out a moth landing on a vehicle set them off and they went on and on and on and...

That's my thought, too. The victim was honking his horn about the local team losing, and probably shot by the Iranian cop version of this guy.

The important part though is to always feel sorry for yourself here in America and to never appreciate what you have because really, you've got it so much worse than people in shiathole countries and nobody understands your pain.

I had to explain to some girls at work tonight the Iran hostage crisis and the reason for the bad blood between the US and Iran.

They didn't understand the whole "yeah but you're racist so it's okay if we kill our women" thing.

We are losing a LOT of context in such a short time, it's really sad and scary.

Even if they didn't throw it, their hearts clearly weren't in it, what with the threats of being arrested when/if they return home and such.   So let's say about as motivated as the average Denver Bronco

Dunno. Some people thought it was funny I had to explain the hostage crisis to some younger people at my job. Apparently it's amusing that girls under 25 might not know about that period in history before they were even born.

Or else people think "Why yes, America being racist against blacks is exactly the same as killing girls because their hijabs weren't covering all their hair, it's a perfectly logical statement."

That's a _tad_ ingenuous though.  "Being racist" hides behavior like "lynching them", so yeah...it is kinda the same.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that everyone gets to kill their citizens till we're all equal. I'll just hush now and let Iran stone girls for not wearing head coverings without complaint because some Americans are racist.

Are you keeping a tally of how many women and girls they still get to kill before we can be upset with them? Do they get a whole 400 years to be oppressive against their women? Are you adding in Sunni and Christian oppression, or how does that work? I mean, since it's only women they're oppressing, and they're all kind of the same "race" if you want to call it that, it's kind of unfair to compare it to, you know, REAL racism.

When you're trying to lose, players don't normally dive in the box and flop around like mackerels.

What was very obvious is that the Iranian team did not have their heads in the game, and the Americans did.

Iran is a "shining" example of why the laws, rules, or codes  of a religion  should never be the laws of the land.   They should only apply to the faithful of that religion and not be punishable by force of law.

I believe you're missing the relevant point with the overuse of "we."

Because alot of the people complaining about the brutality of Iran's morality police are weirdly silent -- if not openly supportive -- of the brutality of our own.

It's not so much "Iran gets a pass because we're bad too," it's more of you "YOU SIR have NO standing to criticize police brutality in a foreign country; STFU and GTFO."

It isn't necessarily YOU that is part of this problem. It's America has an abundance of bootlickers and being selective about which boots to lick is extremely mockable behavior.

Whataboutism, in short. Notice TFA is about IRAN, not one of the millions of articles and threads about shiatty American police, which usually lack the reverse whatabouts. Take away the veneer of Western culture and 90% of Farks ACAB brigade suddenly develop a taste for authoritarian boot leather.

2022-12-01 10:27:01 PM
"Whataboutism" is a deflection tactic, not an observation of hypocrisy. Sort of like how when someone points out that this sort of discussion has a context of people pointing out selective bootlicking here comes YOU with "What about the  ACAB people???"

Point is, IF you're the kind of person who condemns Iran's abusive police while making excuses for ours, people will mock you.

I've seen Gyrfalcon in cop threads. They're not a fan of U.S. cops in general, neither am I. It is absolutely a deflection tactic in this thread to be whatabouting American cops when TFA has nothing to do with them. It's off-topic and an implicit defense of Iranian religious police actions. Boot leather must taste better when it's from the Persian region.

Your VERY Boobies in this thread was a shiatpost whining about people "making up scenarios where the US is worse."

So how did it never occur to you that that Gryfalcon wasn't the person I was referring to as ripe for mockery?
