They are sending people into combat with shiat weapons, very little to no training, extremely limited supplies and extremely limited air cover. Not to mention that a lot of them REALLY do not want to be there.

/ It's surprising that they have not lost more

This might be old news to some here, but China is now calling itself an Arctic Power.

If you doubt me, do a little research.

For China to have any claims in the Arctic Circle, it would have to be set up in Siberia.  Is there another option?

In order for that to work, they'd have to:

A)  Help Russia's military adventure survive through mob-style lending (which is what China does everywhere).

B)  Have their own 'special military operation' to take over a section of Siberia.

They're watching and waiting.

Russia is going to lose this war, but they may lose even more in the process.

Or... it could just be the end of the world.

It is pretty farking crazy.  I'm an American and I guess my perspective is off a bit because to me these feel like WW2 numbers.

That said instead of the fights that America has found itself in since Korea where we are running around chasing insurgents after smashing the actual uniformed army pretty rapidly this is more of a conflict between two forces who are showing up with all the toys and the will to conduct more of a "traditional" themed modern battle.  Russia has (or had) more assets while Ukraine has better assets and is being fed some really tasty wagyu-quality  intel from folks who enjoy watching Russia look stupid.

What is really shows me is how much of an awful mess a little regional conflict like this can be with modern equipment, gps guided artillery, and an endless supply of Russian orks marching off to die wearing boots they were forced to purchase out of their own pay.  I wonder when they are going to start refusing to go and start talking about dragging the chinless little hate-imp out and reaching for the rebar and masonry hammers.

I wouldn't be shocked if they hit 100k casualties by Xmas.

They've well exceeded their Afghan numbers and that destroyed the USSR. They've already seen close to a million Russians flee to whatever neighbor was willing to take them in.

Putin's empire is crumbling before him and he can't just quit. If he quits, he's dead from a coup. If he keeps at it, he's dead from a revolution. If he disappears he's dead because the Russian mob doesn't f*ck around.

If you're not capable of imagining lazy russian officers staging large units in open areas without the slightest fieldcraft or noise/light discipline and russian troops refusing to do any sort of effective security patrol or even static security measures because it's cold outside and they're tired you have a really bad imagination.

If you're not capable of imagining a well equipped and experienced defending force with morale that rivals those at Thermopylae taking advantage of that with massed artillery fires based on thorough reconnaissance then I think you may not have an imagination at all.

In addition to Taiwan?  Time will tell but that seems like spreading themselves a little thin - particularly when considering the domestic struggles Xi is facing.

Pooh's hungry tummy is one thing, but I'm not sure his generals are ready to go balls deep on two fronts and have to manage civil unrest at the same time.  Mofo could go from Whinny the Pooh to Wile E Coyote real quick if he's not careful.

Given what we know about the quality of russian medical care, I'm guessing they hit 100k somewhere around the middle of September, but it will take 3-4 years to actually come up with a full count.  If their aid stations are really losing wounded at the rate they seem to be, more russians may be dying behind the lines that they are at the front.

There won't be a revolution.  You need a core idea to rally around to have a revolution and Russia is completely bereft of beliefs and ideals.  Systemic collapse however is entirely possible.  Even before the war they pretty much hollowed out everything.

Now after nearly a year of war and sanctions we could see a cascade of failures create a collapse like we've never actually seen before.  And don't be too happy if it does happen.  Catastrophes have a way of not staying contained.

I have been saying for years that China is not a threat to the West (yet) it is going to gobble up eastern Russia first.  And if they tried it, would we step in hard, or just start supplying the Russians in they same way we are the Ukrainians?
