If he's fired can I apply for the job?

I give him credit for sticking that out. I'm going into a month where I have 3 days work and the rest of the time I'm sitting at my desk, and I'm dreading it.

/major client gave us 6 months notice
//waiting for either a replacement or to be let go and paid off
///95% sure they're trying to get me to quit instead

*trying to think... at what income i'd be willing to do that for a decade*

/when i was a younger lad i went bonkers at a jorb much like that within a few months, @ ~$55k/yr in 2022 dollars
//spent most of the day on every jobsite in existence ( -_-) jfc was it soul-sapping just SITTING THERE 8 hrs/day
///so. ten years @$100k/yr. i mean... dude is making decent money but... for ten years?
//goddamned office jobs.
/how about i work from home and i'll do it for half.

what a farking idiot.

Take some books to work, bring your laptop, do some online courses. I would happily do nothing for 100k a year.

Carter Pewterschmidt: If he's fired can I apply for the job?

Running a rail network on a island, with a non standard gauge that can't connect to anything?

That whole farking operation was nothing but confusion and delay.

Find something creative you can do at your desk, and either get a second income, or just make something you want to make (bonus if you the second becomes the first). If they're going to pull the "we're giving you no duties because you'll expose our bullshiat, but we can't fire you because you legally exposed our bullshiat" maneuver, then so be it. Make sure you clock in on time, and do whatever you damn well please while you're on said clock.

Of course, making money elsewhere while working from the company is probably a legit fireable offense.

Not if you use a pen name. 8 hours a day writing would turn out an e-book a month.

Except for that entire, international, intermodal thingy.

The online courses, yes. Learn new skills so that when you get out of there you may be making 85-90k, but you'll be engaged in your work.

Really, this guy is complaining about being paid too much to do nothing? Does he also complain about how his penis is too big, how he's too busy having sex with the swedish bikini team, leaving no time to spend his billions?

I thought the same about spending 8 hours a day goofing off on the internet.

But then again, the same article says they're OK with him reading the newspaper for 2 hours, and then going for his daily 2 hour walk. So they seem to be OK with him not even pretending to look busy.

If you read TFA, he's complaining about being in a career deadend. They're preventing him from earning way more money.

He's just a mid -level manager, not an executive. Irish Rail employees are insanely overpaid. One guy I knew was paid €l80k, for shunting trains around a yard, took redundancy early with a massive payout, and al pension that would be most people's working wage.

When I Googled him to get that image, I saw links to the Mail about how people were being forbidden to call him the Fat Controller.  Given the source, I figured it was sensationalised exaggeration about what really happened and refused to give them the clicks.
