Pretty narrow margins that last election.  Put a quarter in your ass...

Seems like a self-correcting "problem" to me.

Control of the House was down to how many votes? 8,000? A couple more pandemics and we can get rid of a non-negligible number of assholes.

I consider this cultural suicide.

There was no rational justification to refusing to wear masks or get vaccinated.  I think on some level, older white Republicans saw a very near future that they feel no longer includes them, that they no longer recognize, and they collectively found a way to check out.  After all, this is not a group of people renowned for their ability to adapt to change.

I'm pretty sure that all of fark knew rural areas that ignored vaccines and safety precautions were going to get slammed by COVID infections.
Even the doom brigade saw this one coming, and they're all morons.

And if indeed that's the case, it suggests that policy makers should be looking at vaccine-promoting interventions specifically targeted at Republicans, Goldsmith-Pinkham says: "It gives you a sense of where you should be looking and who you should be targeting if you want to solve some of these problems."

What problems?

For most people, it boiled down to "Trump said we didn't have to", or "A Democrat told us we had to"

It's an interesting hill to die on, but at least they're dead

The question isn't whether you can fix stupid. It is whether it is worth the effort to stop stupid from fixing itself.

So what you're saying is that Democrats knowingly murdered hundreds of thousands of Republicans by arrogantly presenting vaccines as a partisan victory in the culture wars, rather than a rational public good, knowing that they could provoke a defensive response in their patriotic conservative brethren?

The only ones who didn't see it coming were the trumpers, and they doubled down on being assholes about COVID.

Republicans were going to get vaccinated, but the Democrats made them take a two semester course on critical race theory, get at least two abortions, and dress up as drag queens while getting vaxxed. So it's actually the liberals fault.

Did anyone take a look at what COVID has done to the rural health care systems around the country?

No it's not surprising, and "natural selection at work" isn't an unreasonable observation. "We tried to tell them" is absolutely true.  But "good, I'm glad they died because they're on the other side of the political fence" is a pretty shitty take.
