All of this can be hard to see, hidden behind the throw pillows and the gently rolling hills. But spend some time in this corner of Wisconsin. Have a drink or two in the small-town bars. Sit with parents cheering kids at the county rodeo. Attend Sunday services.
Try to see America through their eyes.

I'd rather not thanks. They're a bunch of racist evil morons.

That's the thing - their lives are good. They're comfortable, safe and well fed. The shiat that they're all worked up and paranoid about, the stuff they think threatens their way of life, is all imaginary bullshiat fed to them by right wing media. Seeing their good, nice life through their eyes just makes them seem more insane. Because they are.

I grew up with those people.  They bring no value to any conversation.  Most are willfully ignorant, and proud of it.

Reporters cannot find normal people, yet again.

Note how everyone is overly afraid of stupid bullshiat that gets hyped up on social media.  And it's not just the right wingers.  There's a guy in this story who's afraid of wearing a Democratic Party t-shirt.

TLDR; without regular contact with normal humans, rural conservatives believe the bullshiat spouted at them for decades by conservative media.

I'll just excerpt a short section with a few thoughts.

But they are not caricatures.

Yes they are. As evidenced by the very next sentence:

Not even Carlson, a bearded, gun-owning white guy who voted for former President Donald Trump.

Apu in The Simpsons is less of a caricature than this idiot.

"I'm just a normal person," he says, sitting on a sofa, next to a picture window overlooking the large garden that he and his wife tend.

See above.

"They don't realize that we mean well."

Oh you absolutely mean well, as long as the well meaning has to do with justifying bullshiat white grievance and groundless conspiracy theories.

He's a complicated man.

Picture this statement being spoken by Ron Burgundy in reference to himself. It has the same weight.

While even he admits he might accurately be called a right-wing extremist, he calls peaceful Black protesters "righteous" for taking to the streets after Floyd's murder.

I'm gonna call absolute bullshiat on this. I'm also gonna openly wonder what he calls all the tourists who just wanted to see the inside of the capitol on January 6.

He doubts there was fraud in the midterm elections.

Considering there is absolutely no evidence, anywhere, of fraud in the midterm elections, "doubting" that there wasn't any simply means he's stupid enough to think there's a chance there was. Which is exactly the bullshiat the propagandists pandering to assholes like this want to be the case.

He drives a Tesla.

So? Is this what makes him complicated, driving an electric car manufactured by a company owned by a man who's turning into a right-wing demigod?

He loves AC/DC and makes his own organic yogurt.

So? He likes crappy music and probably brags to anyone who listens to him that he's the sort of rugged individualist who can make his own food. Is this part of him being complicated?

In an area where Islam is sometimes viewed with open hostility, he's a conservative Christian who says he'd back the area's small Muslim community if they wanted to open a mosque here.

Yeah, more bullshiat. I'll believe that when the small Muslim community is ready to open a mosque down the street for him.

Yes yes, we're supposed to all go on trumpkin safari because we're supposed to have compassion and understanding for q-turds and how they are just like us.

No mention of right wingers visiting productive economically profitable areas to see how they live and work. Nah, these people know everything already about "the libs" and the "big city"

Black people used to rely on The Negro Motorist Green Book for their safety when traveling, to avoid danger from violent racists and "sundown towns." But in this rural Ohio diner, people fear Joe Biden wants to take that all away.

Out there, he says, is a country that many Americans wouldn't recognize.
It's a dark place, dangerous, where freedom is under attack by a tyrannical government, few officials can be trusted and clans of neighbors might someday have to band together to protect one another. It's a country where the most basic beliefs -- in faith, family, liberty -- are threatened.

Yeah.  By YOU.

There's so much bitter irony that the author is trying to polish...

But my favorite part has to be the people who just can't wrap their heads around what it means to live in a city. The fact that they're preparing for violence in the face of people not just accepting that people need to be protected to live the way they want (ow, my irony bone!) while they aren't even farking involved?!

Fascists know they can't say it all out loud. They will demure, obfuscate, and flat out lie just enough to skirt the label, while working diligently to put your family into an oven or up against the wall.

- A word -- "Hope" -- is stitched onto a throw pillow in the little hilltop farmhouse. Photographs of children and grandchildren speckle the walls. In the kitchen, an envelope is decorated with a hand-drawn heart. "Happy Birthday, My Love," it reads. Out front, past a pair of century-old cottonwoods, the neighbors' cornfields reach into the distance.

While the writer of this article is wackin' it to his Norman Rockwell-esque prose, the farkwad he's describing is pictured wearing an "NRA: Stand and Fight" shirt.

What America means to them is being entitled to their white bread world and not sharing space with "Those people."
The reality is, this country was founded on the backs and forced labor of "those people".
"Those people" have done more to secure their place as real Americans than these incurious morons in rural America.
This country rose to prominence because people immigrated to this country, not in spite of it.

Oh hi. I grew up in a small, rural southern town of 5,000. The closest city, Memphis, was 120 miles away.

This phenomenon is a direct offshoot of the Southern Strategy - namely inundating rural voters with massive amounts of propaganda about what is going on in "the big cities" and using fear-based programming through media and newspapers to make them think they're the only sane people left to maintain "the lifestyle" their parents had. Blaming minorities and "the gays" for their hardships is only a part of that whole tactic.

2022-11-30 12:21:24 PM
Yeah, these people are dangerous.  They carry guns and are incredibly delusional.  And even if we could get to know them, the constant and consistent brainwashing will make them even more dangerous.  And this has been going on for years so the GOP can keep in power.

If someone wants to help these people, go nuts.  But honestly, they're so full of pride that they'd probably rather die than admit fault and change.  Maybe not all, but enough to make them even more dangerous than before.  And that's the way the GOP wants it.

Can the media stop with the farking stories on Fox News Viewers? shiat, we know they're backwards imbeciles living in an alternate reality of their own making. We don't need to understand them or hear their sides of the story simply because they refuse to return the favor.
