BenSaw2: "So who fired Twice?"

Once was the owner of the tire company and he fired Twice.

He is also probably the one who submitted this story Twice.

Nielsen said ABC entertainment president Tony Thomopoulos asserted Police Squad! was canceled because viewers had to pay close attention to the show in order to get much of the humor: "the viewer had to watch it in order to appreciate it".

...so now you're changing your story?

That show was amazing.  The cameos, the dialogue, it's one of the few police shows I'll watch (another being Angie Tribeca)

So because viewers were stupid, that's why we can't have nice things?

Yes. Also see all the movies whose endings were ruined because they didn't "test well with audiences".

The "is this some kind of bust" lady was better in the movies.  Still a good joke though

I've also heard that the whole concept didn't work well on TV, that they had to repeat gags even in its short run. The idea worked better on the big screen both because they only needed 90 minutes worth of gags, but also because it was easier to have visual gags.

/Random thought: Viewership has gotten smarter, or maybe the smarter viewers are easier to find, in the era of streaming. Maybe it's time to try something like this again.

That should apply to a lot of shows if they weren't just boring run-of-the-mill procedurals and sitcoms.

Sadly, most are.

Same! I enjoyed those clips (never seen the show) and I love the Leslie Neilson movies I've seen so far so I'm excited!

I would disagree.  I find most TV to be mindless and written for a crowd the writers know will be staring at smartphones thru half of the show.

/maybe i don't watch enough TV
//maybe i watch too much

"How can you put out a meaningful drama when every fifteen minutes proceedings are interrupted by twelve dancing rabbits with toilet paper?"  - Rod Sterling (for younger farkers, he was the creator of "The Twilight Zone")

/no idea how I managed to see "Police Squad" when it was on the air
//I have memories of too much TV stuff to be real.  Probably self-generated over time.  Re-runs are possible, but not a good enough explanation.
///but I'm pretty sure the "Police Squad" bit is real.

It may seem strange, but I associate Police Squad! and Airplane with my mom. Both of us had the same sense of humor and enjoyed those immensely.
Meanwhile, my dad thought Clint Eastwood holding a gun to a punk and asking him how many bullets he had left was a riot.
