I know several pleasant people from the islands, but I have slowly come to the conclusion that there is something really dark and terrible about that culture.  I mean, apparently a large majority really loved that monster Duterte.  There's something really sick going on.. I mean, besides the balut.

Cheating is absurdly rampant in boxing, to the point where it's not much better than WWE. Really a shame, because it's an amazing sport with amazing athletes.

Speaking as someone who grew up in that culture....you're kinda right. There is a definite thread of Authoritarianism that wends its way through everything. Personally, I think it's the combo of the aftereffects of colonialism combined with the Church having way too much power over the average persons life.
I love my family, but sometimes my stepfather and I get rather heated over his "trains run on time" attitude about Duterte.

I'm thinking it tends to even out in the boxing grift. I've seen a couple times where Pacquiao unquestionably got cheated.

Boxing really isn't worth watching. Their crooked behavior shouldn't be rewarded

Very interesting insight.  I always hesitate to criticize a culture, because you know who else does that, constantly.  But some cultures could do with some changes.
