Oh, c'mon. The Chiefs aren't THAT bad.

They just need a good QB.

Move over Herschel Walker Trade, there's a new "worst trade of all time" in town.

Cooking With Russ ended with a grease fire in the kitchen.

I wouldn't quite say I called it -- I didn't know he would be this bad this fast -- but I was sick of his shiat as a Seahawks fan, and wary of how he would age and demand market-setting pay in his late 30s. I thought the trade was at least a reasonable return.

Th broncos should have stuck with the terrible quarterback who would have kept playing for peanuts, rather than selling the farm to buy the burned out husk of Russel Wilson.

I feel like there has been a higher proportion of bad teams this year, or maybe just more bad games on primetime this year than normal.

I was playing poker on Sunday and a guy next to me at the table had a shirt on that said:

Run
Run
Incompletion
Punt

Let's Ride, Broncos 2022

All I could think was "Yep, that's about right."

I've been a Chiefs fan my whole life.  Through all the decades of losing...

It is so nice to be a Chiefs fan these days.  After all that time being the laughing stock of the AFC West, it's so nice to watch them dominate these last few years.

Mahomes and Kelce are simply amazing

OldRod: Mahomes and Kelce are simply amazing

I honestly have no idea how Kelce does what he does. Everybody knows he's a huge weapon, and yet he's constantly catching balls with no defenders within five yards of him. From my living room it doesn't even look like he is making these incredible cuts or fakes. He's just getting open, again and again and again.

Watch the video on the link above. Jalen Ramsey is one of the best DB's in the NFL and he got faked out of his shoes on that play.

CSB time: This story, and the pic in the story, remind me of a time in the 1990s when my friend and I were given free tickets to an NBA game, the Bulls at the Kings. This was during the peak of the Bulls' Jordan/Pippen era greatness, and the Kings at the time were . . . well, the Kings, so it was expected to be a complete bloodbath.  And because it was the Bulls, it happened to be a nationally-televised game (on TNT or whatever), even though the Kings almost never appeared in such games.

So my friend had this fervent wish, for reasons I didn't understand, to be shown on TV when we attended this game, and he came up with a cunning plan to do so.  We got some paper bags and cut eyeholes in them, and went to Burger King and got a couple of those stupid little paper crowns that they used to hand out to kids, and stapled the crowns (the Kings--get it?) to the tops of the bags.  His plan was to wait until the Kings really started getting their asses handed to them and Bulls went up by 20 points or so (which we figured would be before halftime) and then put the paper bags with crowns on our heads.  We had pretty good seats fairly close to court, so he was sure the TV cameras would focus on us at some point.

Well, of course, to the complete surprise of everyone, the Kings played a great game (undoubtedly their best game of the year), the Bulls had a complete off night (even Jordan looked human, and scored maybe 14 points that night), and the Kings led pretty much the whole game and ended up winning.  It would've been stupid (well, even more stupid than it would've been otherwise) to put on the paper bags when the Kings were actually winning, so we didn't, and my friend's big plans to get on TV were foiled.  The Kings were so frustrating that they couldn't even lose right.

It was a weird trade but I don't think anyone ever described it as the worst, certainly because the Walker trade was so lopsided and Ricky Williams actually had a damn good career. Plus the Vikings gave up so much more - 3 1sts, 3 2nds, and a 3rd and then some for Walker vs 2 1sts, 2 3rds and then some for Williams - and Williams was much more productive for the Saints than Walker was for the Vikings.

The Broncos just traded their present and future for a QB who can no longer QB and then paid him so much that they can't move on from him for years.

My recollection is that Denny Green was too stubborn to change his offense to use Walker more effectively, but someone more familiar with the situation probably has a better take.

I thought Pete needed to go instead of Russ, boy was I wrong. Pete is looking like a genius now and there's an outside chance Geno farking Smith could lead the team to the playoffs. Incredible.

I'm so sick of hearing about Mahomey. It's like Tom Brady all over again. I long for the good old days when Dick Butkus or Ray Nitschke would lay a hit on him that would fix that stupid hairdo. Or Kelce thinking he's done it again and gotten wide open only for Mike Hayes, Mel Blount, or Ronnie Lott to come out of nowhere and hammer his a** like a nail through a board. Or Mike Curtis or maybe Jack Tatum. Yeah, I know those guys would be thrown out for actually hitting people like they used to when real football was played. But it's still nice to imagine it. I know it will get me mocked, but so be it. May the "Mad Stork" sack you...brutally.

Part of it is due to the plays the Chiefs run, where there's a lot of misdirection to throw defenders off and crossing routes and picks to make defenders hesitate on who to cover and that allows him to get free.

Kelce also does a lot of creative things while running routes. He'll run the route, hesitate, run back, and a lot of little things to get himself free and open for the catch.

Because they've changed the rules to protect the little cry baby biatchs playing QB these days. And if the Broncos pull off an upset and kick the shait out of Mahomey and the Chiefs, I'll get over it faster. Have a good day.

NBC does not choose the flex games, the NFL does.

And then on top of that Fox and CBS can each protect a game (there's 7 weeks of flexing, but only 5 total games can be protected, though it's generally only ever done to protect a double-header late game which alternates each week)... so this might not even be the first choice.

lol. Players today have half the padding that players in the 80's had. Anyone dreaming about stupid hits that shorten the lives of players is a psychopath. Let's line you up and have a 260lb linebacker hit you unguarded and see what you think.

Enjoy your day.

Been there and done that. And I didn't say "shorten their lives", I said get their bell rung. I don't want to see any players time on the field cut short like mine was. But some of the roughing the passer calls this season were stupid. It's like they don't want to play football anymore. And I have a card from the doctors that say I'm NOT a psychopath.

Same thing.

Fun fact, one of my teammates on my bowling league was an Oregon State Duck that retired mid-college career because he had racked up too many concussions from being a hard hitting free safety. He constantly worries about the long-term effects, he sees CTE symptoms in his life today, hasn't played for almost 20 years.

It also really really helps that Mahomes can even make the mediocre receivers look good, and if opponents spend all their time double teaming him, it means someone else is getting open.

People underestimate just how big Kelce is, and for some reason big people look slow to us.  He jukes pretty hard for a guy his size.

I know this isn't the point you were trying to make (hence why I trimmed out the rest of that post), but it's remarkable how much better today's pads are than those bulky ones from back them.  It's all thinner, but so much better at preventing injury, especially the helmets*.   It's sort of like comparing medieval armor to modern armor.**

Kelce was a huge ass his first few years in the league-I've heard stories of him basically living at a well-known nightclub back then. He's mellowed out a lot with age and is a hell of a lot easier to deal with now.

I don't really GAF about college football, myself. I mean, does anybody give two shiats about minor league baseball?  Then NCAA football shouldn't be of much interest, either. But If you spent any time in Eugene, they've got no local NFL squad. So if you wanna talk to randos in bars while drunk about a relatively safe topic in the Fall, U of O football is it. Oregon State's team is the Beavers.
